Sony hate thread

AMD have tried this exact same method in the past and it flopped and failed to shift market share, i don’t think it’s going to work the third go round
Aye, but I think this time it will work (third time lucky) because the market is shifting towards mid-range (which is high-end 1080p gaming) tech.

And that was a relatively hype-loaded release at the time, too. Says a lot.
And ff16 was already a pretty serious underperformer, for a non-spinoff game based around ff7, which is arguably as popular as the rest of the series combined (not including 14 because I know nothing about mmos), to do so much worse than THAT is shocking.

Sony Increases PS5 Controller Prices in US, Europe, and More

Without any prior warning, Sony has increased the price of the PS5's DualSense controller in a number of key regions, including the US, Europe, and Australia. To begin with, keen-eyed onlookers noticed that American retailers such as Best Buy and Target had updated the price points for various pads, bumping them up by $5 pretty much across the board.

ADDENDUM: I brought it up in the Culture War thread, but this is so good it deserves to be shared here too.

About four months ago, in May of 2024, Sony announced a changing of the guard as far as CEO. They also quietly said they were looking to retool the Playstation brand owing to SIE's mismanagement; SIE at the time having a 6% profitability index, which is fucking god-awful for a company of Sony's size.

Short version is that the acquisition of Firewalk Studios happened in 2023, and the acquisition of Haven Entertainment happened in 2023, both when SIE was in charge of things as far as the Playstation brand was concerned. What this suggests is that when these studios started to slide, SIE is the part of Sony that bought them out, along with the associated Californiacation that came with them - Firewalk had been working on Concord for years by that point, and Haven was working on FAIRGAME$ (which may still come out, because Concord wasn't funny enough apparently).

What all this seems to suggest is that when SIE was given carte blanche to run things how they wanted in pursuance of the PS brand, Sony didn't think to put a leash on them, presumably because Sony didn't think SIE, HQ'd in California, would act exactly how every cynical motherfucker on this website knew they'd react. That seems insane, but this was the same SIE that was mandating that Japanese games released on their platforms had to undergo content inspections in the US, and in English, even if they were being released exclusively in Japan.

There was apparently an Astro Bot event during the weekend (September 7th~8th) in Tokyo, at the Shibuya-gawa
You can type アストロボット 渋谷 for photos (& vids) from people who were there, and it looked like the amount of visitors was quite low during the whole thing.

>"How do we sell this game to a japanese audience?"
>"Whoreizon, god of bore, and uncharted, those are all really popular in japan, right?"
Reeks of a marketing mandate from california.

Looks like more people set that event up than actually attended. I think this is the most astroturfed game I've seen in years.

The changes to maru/batsu, the headquarters move, the censorship and scrutiny for anything Japanese, the sudden price increase for the PS5.
Nintendo can go fuck itself, but at least that is more or less first and foremost a Japanese company. If I was Japanese, I would consider what Sony has become high treason. Honestly no wonder that Astro Bot event was as lively as the Gobi Desert.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Brits fuck off of EU to hell of their own making?
Sony, or whoever counts the sales, splits EU into two groups. Germany France and UK (I think) are one group and then Italy, Spain, Portugal and a few scrubs count for the other. It's some weird like shit.

I just class it as UK sales and EU sales, as UK sales are more or less not far behind the EU sales.

horizon zero dawn
That's way up there too, but at least they gave it away during COVID and in console bundles. So it's at least believable that it has a few fans by way of some people just not having played anything else, I guess.

Astro Bot's audience looks to be almost entirely shills, and a few devout PlayStation zealots desperate for something celebratory of the brand like Smash Bros. They sure love to pretend like PlayStation All-Stars never happened, lmao.

That's just sony managerial mandate in general. Even your avatar options in the PSN menu have MilesMorales-man, horizon, dad of war, uncharted and the last of troons front and center first.

Did they ever fix stick drift? I don't think they did.
They didn't and the stupid replacement sticks for the pro/elite/whatever it's called controller are perpetually out of stock. They should hike the price of those while they're at it considering 99% of affected players are just going to fork their money over regardless.

We are witnessing Sony's implosion in real time.
