You have really convoluted and flat view of religion and judge it only through the scope of institutions that supposedly, represent them. Belief in God on it's own, isn't bad and pushes people and society toward good, gives them purpose, morals and they strive to become better people or overcome addictions. Modern society is Godless and is it any better then it really was? Do you think people are now more happy then they were in past? Degeneracy everywhere, widespread mental illness, ideologies, science, individuals or even consumer goods are being treated like an idols and worshipped. Man who doesn't believe in any God, will believe in anything.
The greatest terrorist threat the UK has faced for literal decades, and most of Europe for centuries has been people who believe in a God that tells them rape, polygamy and genocide is a moral good.
Belief in a God pushes people outside of critical thinking and objective decisions. Yes, I will concede that it could push people to do good works.
But we have never faced an endemic of religiously motivated people trying to tend to the sick, though they have existed throughout history I'll grant you. We far more reguarly face cultists who decend into killing and fucking at random abandon because..."God wills it"
Not all religious believers are murderous death cultists, the same way there are cocaine users who don't shoplift to fund their habit and just use it to take the edge off stress. That still doesn't make cocaine morally good, it's still something that frequently makes people behave in ways totally anathema to a harmonious society. I use that word intentionally, this is a recurring critique in the Confucian/Eastern cultural sphere of "Western" religions.
I don't think people will stop believing in supernatural religion, not until there are no more gaps left for magical creatures left to occupy. If such a thing is even possible of course. Though it is compelling. The Gods lived in their shrines or on Olympus....Then when people climbed olympus they went to the sky....then space, then beyond time, last time I checked it was now beyond reality like one of those multiverse films.
Eitherway. To say religion is a moral good is nonsense, unless you're willing to accept the morals taught by these religions are always good right in the middle of a crisis where religious belief is THE threat in this age to all, even other believers.
Abrahamic religion, Wokism, Marxism. The west constantly since inception keeps coughing up these cosmic battle "Good vs Evil" belief systems that do nothing but cause mayhem and discord wherever they go. Not to say other societies haven't produced chaos, but they don't keep consistently reprinting some flavor of "We are right, destroy everything that causes us doubt" as the underlying thread behind all things.
