It's not going to be from pipe corrosion. The house was built in '81. It's going to be all copper tubing on the pressure side and PVC on the waste side. Anything red is coming from the water itself.

Edit: I just looked something up and apparently sometimes GRC is used for the drop pipe in the well and has a 15-20 year life span. It could be that the pipe going down the well has never been replaced and is corroding out.

This is a picture of the water softener and pressure tank set-up at Nick's second house from Zillow. Its a Culligan HE water treatment system and if it were being properly maintained, the house shouldn't be having any issues with iron in the water.

The circular mark on the floor may indicate that an older water treatment system was replaced at some point. Nick being Nick the easy explanation is I guess that he ignored and didn't maintain the water softener. That even when it totally failed and the water started staining everything, it was just ignored.
