I quite like his art and the little videos around it. I know it's just edgy shock horror, but I like a bit of edge sometimes. Why can't there be a YT channel that caters to that?

I think the issue is also that Urbanspook is Swedish and this type of horror art caters to the northern Euro horror and metal music sensibilities, Sweden, Norway, Finland and even Germany had pretty hardcore horror fiction when I was growing up, even for teens.
The issue isn't even the subject matter. Look at how zoomers are cooming over Borrasca or Pen Pal since Wendigoon & Meatcanyon covered them on CreepCast.

Spook's appeal lays in it's simplicity.
It's a fucked up person or thing doing fucked up shit. Why? Fuck knows, does it matter at the end of the day?

It's just this retarded fixation on muh lore and "depth", where everything has to have a nuance, an open-endedness, room for interpretation, discussion and speculation.
Pen Pal and Borrasca are in the same territory of grossness as Spook is.
The only real difference is that both of those spend an exorbitant amount of time dressing it as some "deep" story, while to me personally, it just comes across as being written by someone who desperately wants to give meaning to this fucked up idea for a story they had, trying (and admittedly succeeding for the most part) in dressing this idea up in the clothes of a story, of art.

Urbanspook essentially took a shit on that entire concept, that entire need for artificial depth and just went "Fuck it, fucked up being/person doing fucked up shit. Here's some cool art to go with it.

In essence, urbanspook took the pseudo-intellectual esque elements of modern horror writing and cast it aside to focus on the pure unfiltered emotion and also just art of it all.
And I personally think the reason why people seethe so much at it, is because it is effective at what it does. Without needing all the bells and whistles of similar but different content.
Which in turn pisses those who do adhere to the "muh lore" thing off a lot.
 
if I can go the rest of my life without hearing the terms "analog horror", "liminal spaces", "ARGs", or seeing some pudgy faggot with a beard referencing any of the other lame ass "horror" genres that come from reddit, I could die a happy man.
While I must confess I like the liminal imagery, I fail to see how it can be used as horror
 
Analog horror is not for me, its something that became boring really quickly
UrbanSpook did came up with one of the most original concepts I've seen in the genre, a simple yet really effective idea, an actual serial killer, not a monster, not a demon, not a spooky kids mascot that was actually evil, a regular human that was really fucked up in the head. When his series came out for the first time a lot of youtubers did praise this and said it was one of the best analog horror concepts, to be honest people only started to hate on him after he called pastra an autistic furry, suddenly everyone started pointing at the flaws of his series (which some of them are valid critisims, like the pacing making things more boring and trying too hard to make newer cases more and more shocking to the point that it became repetitive and boring)

His haters are retards if they think this is the worst analog horror series.
They dislike urbanspook's work because hes not "safeEdgy" and wholesome.
But being real, UrbanSpook is also a massive retard for responding to them, he only made his own situation worse by giving them more things to complain, if he shut his mouth and keep doing his work without interacting with these faggots people would have forgotten about all this drama months ago

People always overlook the Painter and the masked killer is inspired by real world serial killers, Ottis Toole and Henry Lee Lucas. Both were involved in random killings and child sex crimes together across Florida and the American South. Ottis Toole sent a letter to the future host of America Most wanted to try to blackmail him with the whereabouts of his son, Adam Walsh's bones.( The police only recovered his head) With a letter where Ottis confesses to raping and killing Adam Walsh with a machete. I find the analog horror community criticizing Urbanspooks writing for being over the top and shocking. Ignore the fact that real life serial killers are over the top and just as brutal as the painting killers. Never mind, he made the only analog horror series with zero supernatural and science fiction elements, which makes him stand out more than the gore.

Windigoon had it right in his critique. Urbanspook is only shocking the first two minutes, and then it becomes exceptionally boring because there's no story being told, and you know the rest of it is going to just be more "And then this fucked up thing happened, and then THIS fucked up thing happened, but only right before THIS fucked up thing happened!"
Honestly, this is why I don't like it either. It's just shock-value slop that becomes dull after the first few times.

For the record, there's been nothing wrong with just having a gorefest if that's all you want. The problem is that Urbanspook, his haters and his whiteknights are all acting like his story isn't just that, and that it's somehow worse/better, and more dangerous/meaningful than it actually is, and that's fucking retarded.
I think this thread should be remade from a derangement syndrome to just a community thread about analog horror and mascot horror. Since everyone involved is equally cowish.

Yeah, I do too. It's when these redditor types get their hands on it and add all their stupid little "OCs" and "lore" that makes me step away and enjoy it from afar without having anyone's stories or descriptions taint the subject matter for me. They become way overdone, too. I can't stand all of the little "communities" that pop up around horror genres nowadays it just takes all the mystique and fun out of them. I hate labels and "explanations", like with hollywood and their incessant need to ruin the mystique and intrigue of established IP by making sequels or reboots that "explain" everything. I don't need to know the origin of the Alien. in fact, not knowing makes it 100x scarier. But no, some hollywood exec has now decided that some big stupid naked humanoids created them. its gay. it's never not gay, when tons of people crowd on top of an IP and add their own little retarded ideas...especially when money is involved and it needs to stay "general audiences" to retain maximum profits.

I could bitch about horror concepts being ruined for hours but that is in itself detrimental to their substance. So aside from the rare outburst like this I mostly sit back and enjoy what I enjoy without talking to anyone about it or reading what anyone has to say about it.
 
To elaborate on my points.

1. Wendi likes the MC because he has dysmorphopobia and is a former Sunday school teacher. The MC appeals to what he likes and calls Kister 'the next Spielberg'.
2. Wendi has produced roughly the equivalent of 2 days worth of content on the MC alone, holding it as the pinnacle of analog, along an interview with Kister and a stream viewing another analog.
3. Wendi joins forces with Kister trying to cancel US. Considering other horror he likes and promotes he looks like a massive pushover being bullied by his bf into not allowing another kid to sit at their table during lunchtime.
4. Kister alters the MC after post-nut clarity hits that he is just as bad as US by taking out the part of the instructional video telling people to kill themselves if an alternate is nearby.

For the record, The Painter is formulaic shit. I literally wrote as such months ago.
I'll take your analysis at face value because I don't know shit about Kister outside of his ex trying to #metoo him, but my original point still stands, that, regardless of Windigoon's bias, his criticism was accurate. It's boring, and the absence of any actual story makes it seem almost mean spirited.

I should also note that I have no idea what the Mandela Catalog is beyond the name. (Note: catalog does not end in fucking ue)
 
I liked the series at first because since it wasn't supernatural, and the music/atmosphere/artwork was creepy enough. Then it just got ridiculous because it kept going longer than it should have. For a series that is supposed to be more grounded its silly that the killers still haven't been caught despite killing dozens of people and repeatedly been on camera. One of the victims was also encased alive in gallons of wax in his living room, how did they pull that shit off?

Should have just lasted 3 episodes and been about showing off the artwork with a clinical description of the victims as found by the FBI. Then at the end just say the killers still haven't been found to this day and the only thing they have going for them is the self-portrait which would be at the end. Keep it short and vague.
 
Tangentially related, but I saw onr time one of these horor youtubers complain that shock videos like Lemon Party "relies on homophobia to shock" and Meatspin "only scares people that are heckin transphobes" or garbage like that.

Understand that terminally online twitter trannies like horror cause they like the disturbing things while simultaneously have an interest of cutesifying it, or romanticizing some aspects and like horror that does not go too far as to offend their political sensibilities or " heckin disrespectful cultural depictions for folx with trauma". That's why they hate urbanspook series. It has no lore able to be memefied and the characters have no charisma for them to obsess over.

How the fuck can you think "AND THEN HE RAPED THE CHILD AND MURDERED HER, AND THEN HE FUCKED THE DOG, AND THEN HE RIPPED OUT THE INFANT'S EYES AND STITCHED THEM INSIDE HIS DAD'S BALLSAC AND FUCKED THE INFANT IN THE EYE SOCKETS WITH HIS OWN FATHER'S COCK!!!" interesting in the least? It doesn't go anywhere. It isn't interesting. After you get over the shock of the first episode being so brutal, it is numbing, because you know what's coming, and there's no buildup, and I don't give a fuck about the characters. There are no stakes. As a one off it's fine, like the shorts on Local 58, but it overstays its welcome.
 
I don't really take Youtube/Internet horror all that seriously. Some of them are good, but for the most part Hollywood is better at horror than the average Youtube horror channel or creepypasta author. And when Hollywood is better at making good horror than you are then you should really reevaluate your skillset.
Being afraid of the IRS is at least funny and understandable haha.
Based on how frightfully retarded most self-identifying Nazis are I think refusing to work with them is relatable. But enough about A&N.
