While we may have a dedicated Sega thread, I wanted a place to sperg specifically about their consoles. Let’s talk hardware, hacking, history, Sega console games, emulation, news, how much scalpers fucking suck, anything goes.
For me, the Dreamcast will forever be held in my heart as the greatest console ever made, however I have a particular soft spot for the Sega Saturn, which unfortunately flopped and had limited presence in North America; as such, many Sega Saturn games that were translated into English are now worth hundreds (sometimes thousands) of dollars.
Because of its overly-complicated architecture that including two CPU’s, eight processors, and custom graphics chips, many game developers didn’t bother to create ports for it, and its made emulation even trickier. There isn’t technical information on the Saturn for emulator developers to work with, so reverse engineering is mainly how it’s done. While still not perfect, Mednafen has made some amazing strides with it for the last decade. It’s getting the ROM’s that are another challenge. ;3
Alright, enough about me.
I’m curious to hear from other Farmers about the topic of Sega consoles.
