I'm not sure how appropriate it is to this thread as it's more dark than funny, but any of you who've played Spelunky 2 may have seen YT videos from a user named Twiggle. He was a very significant player as he was the first to reach 7-99 and clear the cosmic ocean, approximately 1 month after the game released.
His most succesful endeavour would be his "Spelunked" video series, these were montages of humerous deaths and mishaps he encountered while playing:
Even just getting to the cosmic ocean is a huge challenge, one only 5% of Spelunky 2's steam players have accomplished as of writing this post. BEATING the cosmic ocean doesn't even have an achievement but I would wager it's around 0.01%. Yes I am just guessing.
Twiggle was doing fucking challenge runs through the cosmic ocean, going for multiple constellations (end game ratings, basically), genocide runs, eggplant runs, triple crown runs, even a cursed (aka no-hit) run, all while setting numerous score and speedrun world records throughout. He was objectively the best Spelunky 2 player.
Starting in February 2022, two years in to his career, he uploaded 5 strange videos seemingly replicating the style of 2005-2007 YouTube.
He then killed himself.
The videos are surreal knowing this, with how they harken back to an bygone era he was certainly a part of and and how he fixates on an old picture of a dead rat he took years ago on his iPod touch in "Rat - EP 2 (finale)".
I think these videos are the product of a mental breakdown preceeding his suicide. I don't know enough to speculate why he did it but I think it's safe to say that the sheer amount of time he devoted to Spelunky 2 means he didn't have much else going on. It being the height of Covid times couldn't have helped.
Its sad to read the old comments on these videos prior to his death saying they're happy he's back even if he is taking a weird new direction. Nobody realised where it was leading.
