Yes. I think it's been pretty clear from the start that he cannot stop thinking about and reliving the murder (rightfully so) and, subconsciously, he wants justice to be served.

(I assumed there'd be a specific pschyological term for this phenomeonon, so I actually just Googled "Criminal Subconsciously Wants to Be Caught". But the search came up empty. I guess it's just the old-fashioned, "guilty conscience.")

There's an old TV movie called Murder 101 where Pierce Brosnan gives a good lecture on this phenomenon (15m40s mark, if the timestamp doesn't go through):

so the fact of the matter is most police are incompetent/only in it for the paycheck. Look up Robert Pickton, he managed to get away with butchering women for 3 decades. JF's former ex-wife/wife, to my knowledge, was mentally disabled and borderline homeless before she met JF, and there's not a lot of incentive for the canadian police to care about her. Justice is something that exists for the rich in society. Hopefully they find evidence to solve what happened but I'm a cynic when it comes to this type of thing.

BTW, remember Mama JF the next time you hear people citing "FBI statistics" and "crime statistics" as if they're the voice of God.

Per the stats, there was no murder of Mama JF. There is no unsolved crime. The "murder rate" of Prince Edward Island remains a pristine 0.000%

The late Colin Flaherty was great exposing all the way that governments cook the books in crime stats, constantly not listing murders, classifying murders as suicides, etc.

If you kill a woman who lives with you and you and her live an isolated lifestyle out in the middle of nowhere, and she has no job or other outside obligations and apparently rarely even spoke to the neighbors, then it could be months before anyone realizes she's missing, giving you plenty of time to dispose of the evidence.

Robert Pickton, likewise, was killing women on his isolated pig farm in British Columbia. These women were generally sex workers and drug addicts. Serial killers often target street prostitutes because they live a transient lifestyle, often disappearing as they head to another town or hook up with a new John or something. So when a prostitute disappears, nobody is immediately alarmed, they just assume a more benign explanation. There's also not much to go on to prove they're missing, i.e. jobs they don't show up to, bills they stop paying, social functions they stop attending, etc.

So the failure of the police to charge JF, or to detect Pickton for so long, isn't down to incompetence so much as the fact that there wasn't a lot for them to work with. JF chose the perfect victim and perfect situation for a murder.

Relistening to the MATI segment on this. In retrospect, I think Mama JF's disappearance was one of the craziest things to happen on this side of the Internet. We watched a decently well-known e-celeb likely get away with murder. I hope the kids are OK.

Kind of embarrassing how incompetent the cops handling this were, they basically just took the guy's word for it and left it at that. Probably could have found some sort of evidence before they let the case get super cold but it didn't seem like they did anything.

It would be borderline impossible for her to be completely off the radar for even 3 months and still be alive let alone over a year now. There would have to be a bank account opened in her name or a tax form, job application using her SIN or something if she were alive.

Checked the thread hoping he finally got caught but doesn't seem like anything came of it.

I am not ready to call the Canadian Mounties incompetent yet.

They have their primary suspect. They have brought him in for questioning several times. They have kept him talking. They kept pressure up for a while. They have waited a bit to see if the body shows up somewhere.

The Mounties want a solid case that cannot be ruined by reasonable doubt. If they have to wait to build a solid case, I am OK with that.

Maybe they hope that JFG will get drunk some day and run his mouth and let details slip. Unfortunately JFG is incredibly antisocial. He has a new baby-factory/future-fertilizer. Maybe someday he will threaten her in regards to what happened to Mama JF. Maybe he will run his mouth once too often on stream. Maybe someone will needle him with a question that sets him off on stream.

Of course throughout all of this, I have to wonder why we haven't heard anything from Mama JF's parents and sister. We don't know story they were told and by whom.

It has been a long time since I listened to the Mama JF tapes but didn't she tell stories of spending many years as a travelling prostitute illegally crossing borders and living off of random men just selling her body for food. It's possible to do this with no bank account or job etc.
