Concord - robots with pronouns

The refunds and total deletion is insane.
I would love to imagine Sony feared that “Stop Killing Games” would force them to add peer-to-peer networking or keep the servers online and prolong the exhibition of the omni-present fact that in order to be a company, you have to make good products and services.
Nah. I don't think SKG would lead to results in the timeframe to effect it, since ross even advocates to grandfather in OLD games dying to reduce friction in the industry, IE, if his ideal laws passed 2 days AFTER concord released, concord could already shut down without consequence. I think it was mostly hiding shame and trying to cut off building discontent / memes / jokes by just killing it. After a certain point, sony knew it was a joke, knew sales were going nowhere, knew the branding was fucked. And they knew burying it like a pair of shit underwear was better than trying to clean it up with everyone watching.

Its pretty much "taking your ball and going home"
Also adding server launchers for it REALLY isn't that hard to do.

How’s Foamstars doing? It lost 94% of its playerbase within its first two months, then went free-to-play.

It was only released on the PS4 and PS5, so I can’t find any metrics on it.
The lack of metrics is why I didn't include it, but it did cross my mind and I expect it to be arriving at the graveyard within the next year.

I've also since learned apparently Redfall isn't dead? It's no longer being supported but the offline mode patch I thought was cancelled did eventually drop, so I don't know how we categorise this one.

Redfall isn't even a GAAS title, it's just a really shitty single player + coop title with...nothing going for it. Offline mode is the bare minimal work the team can put into keeping it "alive" and should have been included at launch.
Speaking of that list, Avengers is a tragic one since there was a good game hidden underneath...if they made it a single player game focused on the characters and story. They should have released something like this 15 years ago, when the titular movie was hot off the presses and everybody was talking about it, instead it arrived way too late and when it did, it became a skinnerbox simulator halfway thru. Rest of the games are just soulless garbage with no redeeming values.

This is where we get into the weeds with what technically constitutes a Live Service title. Redfall had a season pass (which was never fulfilled as far as I know) and planned content updates over time, which I would argue qualifies it as a Live Service title.

Avengers was really weird, because you could actually feel the moment development pivoted from an Uncharted-style single player adventure to Live Service cash-grab, when the game abandons structured narrative levels in favour of a giant map with random mini-sandboxes where you go fight the same waves of generic enemies in copy-pasted rooms.

I also remember being really impressed with how much effort went into giving every character a unique feel and huge moveset, but then all that work was wasted because they were nerfed to fit the 'number go up' DPS model of Live Service. The fact characters like Hulk could get repeatedly stunlocked by basic human enemies was pathetic. Black Widow ended up being the most powerful character in the game, because you could configure her ult to charge with regular attacks and infinitely spam it til everything was dead.
Rest of the games are just soulless garbage with no redeeming values.
I maintain that Anthem had a great foundation, the Javelins felt amazing to control and the transition between air and ground combat was seamless. Unfortunately they never got round to adding anything fun to actually do with the Javelins, aside from maybe 2 half-decent raids.

How EA didn't make the obvious moves to license an Iron Man game using the skeleton of Anthem is beyond me.

That would have been fantastic. The two Iron Man movie licensed games are...mid, very mid, but I think they're decent enough to prove that a proper full pledged Iron Man title would work well. Imagine an Arkham-esque game that focuses entirely on Tony Stark but instead of stealth-beatem up gameplay you have a vertical shooter with lots of customizable suits and a whole rogue gallery of characters from the comics. It would be fantastic, how a game like this hasn't been made yet is beyond me.

And the Anthem framework is even more perfect because you already have the different Javelin types which could easily cover regular Iron Man, War Machine, Hulk-Buster and you could make your DEI quota by using the skinny Javelin for Riri Williams/Ironheart, so most of the work is already done, they just need re-skinned.

But nah, let's make another Spider-Man game instead that just rehashes an inferior version of the Arkham combat and stealth sections and the same open-world checklist we've done a hundred times.

Anthem was a dreadful game, but I have a soft spot for it because of how *heavy* the tank Javelin felt. My fat ass shaking the ground with every stomp as I barreled into enemies was immensely satisfying.

unironically pulling a real life Sword Art Online would have cost way less money.
2 million-ish units sold wasn’t nearly enough for their massive gamble.
how much were they fucking marketing that shit? 6 weeks with one dev meant the cost to make the game would be fuck all. if they made a profit of $10 on each unit they should have been able to make $20 mil, so how much were they marketing this fucking thing? especially in 1980s dollars. I'm sure just the name itself should have gotten asses in seats.
look at teal nigga
the main thing was 1. making them attractive but 2. showing off their bodies. it should be obvious now that they're doing this shit intentionally.

I got curious and looked up upcoming hero/extraction shooter goyslop to see what funny upcoming flops I can look forward to.

One caught my eye being Fragpunk which basically looks like Concord if the designs weren't fucking hideous and it actually mixes up some hero shooter shit in an interesting way. Going off my luck it will be a game I love, flops, and dies despite being leagues better than the competition just like Gigantic. Even the nigger character looks decent in that he looks like a Boondocks character

Marathon is gonna be DOA or cancelled, calling it now. Bungie hasn't made a good PVP game since Halo Reach and even then they had huge problems. They've also pissed off a lot of their good will fucking over people like Joe Staten, Marty O'Donnell, Marcus Lehto, and Michael Salvatori. But hey, they have a new publisher they can scapegoat, maybe they can pull off the hat trick!

Fairgame$ (mega retarded title on the level of F.3.A.R.) is gonna bomb or get cancelled just like most of Jades games. They bitch must give great head, maybe the world's most expensive prostitute given how much money she's wasted.

Marvel Rivals will probably do pretty well until they inevitably fuck it up.
I hate the Trannyverse adhd artstyle so much it's unreal

That’s what they were banking on, and they marketed the hell out of it hoping to tell as many people as possible “hey, there’s an ET game just in time for Christmas, you should buy it because it’s ET”.

You don't want to keep this half baked overwatch clone, copying the POZ and generic shit. Waste of time and resources.

I haven't played the game, but I looked at the characters, and it’s bad... I’ve got experience with 3D modeling and texturing characters, so I thought I’d give my two cents on the character design.

Well the character design in concord is basically post modernism at it's finest, and it’s definitely a big reason the game failed. In a hero shooter, characters need to be unique and recognizable. But here, they’ve gone out of their way to make everyone as bland and unremarkable as possible.

The color schemes are a mess, and the silhouettes are boring. There’s no texture, no life, and nothing that makes the characters stand out. It’s like they hit the "randomize" button, resulting in designs with zero personality or appeal. The characters look so generic and flat that you can’t even tell what any of the materials are supposed to be, everything feels like plastic. The fabrics all drape the same way, giving all the characters a lifeless, artificial look. There’s no texture, no wear and tear, no visual storytelling every character looks like they were just born yesterday

But this isn’t just bad design, it’s deliberate. The female characters are purposely uglified and the amount of 'diversity' is ridiculous. They’re following the current trend of making sure no one is too attractive or too traditional. It feels like they’re more focused on checking diversity boxes than on making characters players actually want to play as.
It’s quite obvious they’re pushing a DEI agenda. Every character has the same "flaws" by design. This isn’t about creating memorable heroes with real personality; it’s about conforming to modern social standards. And the result is characters that feel empty, lifeless, and completely forgettable.

To summarize concord’s character design is postmodernism at its worst superficial subversion with no substance. Instead of creating characters with real identity, they’ve created a lineup of forgettable, politically correct placeholders that no one gives a fuck about.
200+ million development costs? What the fuck?!

Lastly I should mention the hero 'Roka' and I think it's the worst character design in the game. It has this oversized helmet paired with tight, plastic?-looking spandex and a rocket launcher, yet no tools, no gadgets, no extra rockets. The whole design is just random nonsense.

Even the pose doesn’t make sense. They’re holding a heavy rocket launcher with one hand, but the character’s weight is shifted the wrong way, making the whole thing look awkward. Roka looks like a generic shooter NPC, not a hero character, and it’s probably the most obvious case of concord's obsession with postmodernism over substance.

This made it seem like the "diversity" was just a coat of paint on top of an overcooked game idea. I think they had to do something with a prototype and rushed a progressive aesthetic to be "hip" with the times.

I don't know how if this is the same for game marketing but for big block buster movies, its marketing budget is the same as its development budget. So, say if a movie costs 100 million to make, it usually also costs roughly the same amount in advertisement meaning that the movie costs about 200 million in total. Does this is also apply to Concord, if it cost 200 million to develop then did Sony also spend another 200 million or so on its marketing? You're potentially seeing a total development of 400 million.

I'm sorry if this has already been discussed I don't care much about Concord to read through the highlights lol.

Honestly, I'm fine with it. This is one of the few pieces of media that deserves to be erased from history.
It isn't even The Room level of so bad it's good because generally that category requires some actual sincerity. Deliberately taking a shit on the floor and demanding to be paid for it is soulless pig behavior.

This is just so bad it fucking sucks and needs to die.

Imagine how fucking gay and lame they would make it though. Tony would get killed in the opening cutscene and some diverse nigger person of gender would be the playable character for the rest.
