Disaster Litter box company flooded with negative Amazon reviews after allegedly KILLING cats

Customers are outraged over allegations that a type of self-cleaning litter boxes are allegedly killing cats.

Cat product reviewer Philip Bloom highlight the potentially lethal robotic boxes on his YouTube channel One Man Five Cats on Saturday.

He highlighted an example of a woman named Carli Jay who shared in a since-deleted TikTok that an automatic litter box she bought off of Amazon allegedly killed her beloved Siamese cat named Mochi.

'I went to find my cat and she was hanging from her litter box. It had closed on her neck and her body was hanging out and there was blood, red stuff, all over like everywhere and she was gone,' Jay said through tears.

Bloom claimed the mother used a type of litter box sold under the brand Amztoy on Amazon that rotates on the Y-axis rather than the X-axis to clean the box.

He demonstrated the alleged design flaw on a similar product he purchased from Ali Express with a stuffed animal and showed that models entrance completely closes when it cleans.

If the sensors malfunction and fail to detect a cat was near or in the box, the animal could get trapped inside or caught as the door shuts.

Amztoy models of the litter box have been taken off Amazon, but Bloom found several other companies selling the robotic boxes with the same design.

Enraged customers have been flooding the reviews of these similar products warning others of the risk they pose.
'This is very dangerous for cats as it can guillotine your cat. I cannot express enough not to buy this as this has killed many cats,' one reviewers said on a Catlk product, which seemingly had a replication of the design.

'Will quite literally guillotine your cat,' another person said in a similar CozyBlue product review.

On reviewer said of a Kikquze litter box: 'Flawed sensor that will trap your cat and kill them. Beware, this product is under different sellers. DO NOT BUY ITS A SCAM.'

DailyMail.com has reached out to Amazon, Catlk, CozyBlue, Kikguze and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission for comment on this story.

No official recall has been issued for these types of litter boxes.

Increasing numbers of cat owners have opted for automatic litter boxes to avoid scooping the tray multiple times a day and collecting the waste on a regular basis.

Bloom recommends avoiding generic machines and stick to established brands.

That describes literally all domesticated animals, including livestock we slaughter by the millions or billions every single year.
Dogs are even closer to us than that, their metabolism has diverged from wolves to benefit significantly from carbohydrates because they have been living so close to and with humans so long and eating our foods.

And livestock animals have become less intelligent, more docile, and quicker to gain weight than the species they were derived from because we've bred them to be that way.

I just don't see any significant difference. We've had dogs for thousands of years, but we've also had shepherds for thousands of years.

I just thought of something here- this litterbox opening looks big enough for a curious crawling baby to poke it's head through. Imagine a baby accidentally triggering this same mechanism and getting guillotined by this same death trap. That 5 Cats guy had a hard time removing his hand once 'caught' in it, imagine a baby getting caught would end up dying like a cat.

PS, on someone reacting to 5 Cats, they or Cats showed the original picture the woman on Amazon posted of the death trap box (before she was made to remove it) , there was dried blood stains on it.

Those poor cats.

A baby could totally climb in that thing. It's only a matter of time.

This cheap Chinese crap is extremely dangerous. Amazon is pretty much all cheap Chineseum trash now. You have to really hunt for the name brands. And watch out for the fake reviews. I'm extremely careful about what I order now. As soon as I see Engrish I'm out of there.

Increasing numbers of cat owners have opted for automatic litter boxes to avoid scooping the tray multiple times a day and collecting the waste on a regular basis.

Lazy. I scoop several times a day. It doesn't take long. Don't get a cat is you can't do the few simple things for them that they can't do themselves. I don't trust the automatic boxes. I don't think my cats would like them either. The noise and motion might cause them to avoid the box all together.

If someone wants to buy a fancy contraption to whisk away kitty poo then more power to them but obviously it's not the type of thing you can cheap out on. Even if you are being lazy by doing it...then so what? They're still ensuring the cats have somewhere to potty and the cleaning is taken care of. They've been on the market for a really long time and I've never heard of one killing anything until now. Sounds like a new cheap design is to blame.

Also, no, person upthread you cannot rely on workers at pet supply stores to know jack shit. They're just minimum wage randos and often told by managers/the company what to say to sell products to people. Get info from vetted information and other owners with experience.

Amazon has so many scams. Its unreal i bought a hardrive supposedly from a normal company i forgot the name but think Samsung Amazon made it look like I was buying from the company, but it turns out that towards the very bottom of the page, it says its a Chinese company reselling it. I got the package from some Chinese name, like Changyong Hard Drives. If I don't get a gift card, I don't use Scamazon.
I remember seeing something a while back that said many products are all just stored together in the same giant bins at the warehouses, both official things and knock-offs. So you could order something that's legit and end up with the knock-off due to the luck of the draw of whatever the employee pulls out of the bins.

We never bred and lived with dogs for food (excluding the Chinese and Koreans, but they also eat pretty much everything in existance). We have had dogs for far longer than farming ever existed, dogs were with humans when hunting and gathering was a thing.

One of the most confusing experiences I've had with a retail worker was in a pet store. I asked the employee where the shampoo was and they said something to the tune of, "You don't really need shampoo, you can just use water."

Ma'am, my dog found the spot along the river where the flow was cut off months ago and proceeded to go chest deep into the anaerobic mud, which reeks. Where's the shampoo and why are you working as an anti-saleswoman???

On topic: buying pet supplies from a country that gives zero fucks about animal welfare is for mouthbreathers. People who bought these almost assuredly also buy China produced carb filled kibble for their cats and then wonder why their cats keep dying of kidney failure when they are still relatively young.

"Thirty seconds to scoop out Fluffy's litterbox? That's too much work, I'll buy this Chinese product off the internet instead! What could go wrong?" - (former) cat owner

Another consequence of people outsourcing basic labor to machinery.
These are kind of dumb takes imo, there are a number of self-cleaning litter boxes that work completely fine, blaming people for buying one as if that in and of itself was morally wrong is kind of fucked up and stupid.

If a toilet was so poorly designed it killed a guy would you say it was his fault for not shitting in the woods like he's supposed to? A company has made a product that such a pile of trash it is literally murdering cats and your take is that its the owners fault for buying it? How? How are they supposed to know in advance it is dangerous? Again, there are countless self-cleaning litter boxes that have never even hurt a cat, if you watch the one guy five cats video you can see that this product is a terrible design even when the sensors are working.

"You bought a car and it exploded killing your child? Another consequence of outsourcing labor to machinery, next time walk, idiot." - retards

I do not think it is people's fault that the seemingly well-reviewed product they bought on Amazon killed their pet, I think Amazon should be held liable for fake reviews and the company that made it should face some kind of animal abuse charge.

I mean I know its China and all but I wonder how absolute dogshit the sensors must be if they're failing this quickly and are not able to do something relatively simple like make sure the fucking cat isn't inside the box.

If these are the same sensors chinks use for their automated machines in factories no wonder they have so many fucking industrial accidents.

This.

Although in the modern world, you don't have much choice to not buy Chinesium.

At least be as smart as possible and not buy mechanical remote-activated Chinesium pet-murder-huts.

I think it's harder to find anything that isn't made in China anymore. America practically sold it's soul for cheap products, so much so that people are not used to the real price of quality Made in America products, and think the prices of chinesium are 'the norm' and not the result of corporate corner-cutting on quality and materials and offloading producion to a country that doesn't sem to care about human rights.

I think in order to do that people have to be willing to document the evidence and have their cats necropsied and it documented to show that there was legit lethal injuries caused by these products. Just crying about it online and then burying their pets afterwards isn't always enough, it warns some folks but a lawsuit and evidence forces the companies to at least remove products and hopefully stop production. They need to do everything to have legal evidence or Amazon will likely just laugh in their face and sic lawyers after them.

A bonus cherry on top is also if they can show that Amazon allows or does nothing about review alterations and bullying by companies making these products, thus showing that it is at least complicit or is at minimum tolerating companies who do shady crap like this.

I have cats and I scoop a few times a day. I have a very sensitive nose and the cats are (were actually, down to our last one now) complete madams.
But these machines, don’t they smell? I see people comparing them to the diaper bins ‘that stop smell!’ But the diaper bins absolutely do not stop smell at all. They just concentrate it. It doesn’t matter if it’s in a bag in a bin you can still smell it. So that bin drawer full of cat shit, it’s going to smell too is t it?
And they’re plastic aren’t they, the robots? Doesn’t that absorb cat piss smell? I’ve had to chuck all out plastic boxes every few months and for the next cat we have I’m going to get a stainless steel one.
I’ve been to precisely one home with a fancy cat toilet and it stank. It really, really smelled.
Fellow cat owners, are the robots less smelly than just scooping a few times a day and scrubbing the tray out once a week? Inconvenient isnt an issue, but smell is.
I know smell is a touchy topic because people insist things don’t smell when they do and everyone is too polite to say so. I am also convinced that a lot of people have almost zero sense of smell.

Pour one out for the homeboys lynched by Chinesium electronics.

If you're so lazy or busy you need a self-cleaning litterbox, and on top of it buy some Chinese mystery machine off Amazon instead of take the time to actually talk to people in person at a pet store about this, you're not mature enough to have pets.

They're living creatures, not fashion accessories.
I love cats. But I've done enough catshit-scooping for the rest of my life. It's nasty and unnatural.

And even then I wouldn't trust a Chink-made automatic cat box.

I'd thought about getting a self-cleaning box for a minute, but I figured it would break down and be a hassle to clean, and for me litter boxes need to be more of a use, clean, eventually just chuck and get a new one.
I have one of those where you have the nesting grate in the bottom, so you just lift that and it sifts the litter for you.

One way to avoid buying knock off pet products or end up with knock offs is shopping on Chewy instead of Amazon. I buy almost everything pet related on Chewy now. They also send birthday cards to your pets if you're into that sort of thing.

if a guy bought a robotic ass-wiping toilet from an online clearing house stocking products made in sweatshop factories and it peeled his butt skin off, I'd suggest he should've bought a regular toilet.

It's worse than that. The sensors just don't stop the litter box from closing out of the box. You have to update the machine or the sensors are literally useless according to the video.

It's not a question of it failing, it's just dangerous until you make it safe.

I've also thought about getting automatic litter boxes as I don't want my entire room to stink when I get home from work and I've thought of getting one for my relative with a cat and bad knees, so this was kind of a shock for me.
