Oh boi, having talked to CA farmers out east, you have no idea how bad the water wars were despite what the media said. Instead of doing nuclear desal they turned an entire region into a fucking desert. I'm surprised the locals straight up didn't start a bombing campaign in LA itself like how the IRA did to the UK.

Then, in the last 20 years, they've REALLY fucked up the food here in the US. Something like 1/3-1/2 of the farmland grows fucking ethanol and HFCS corn, not real corn. The only reason we have to import food is cash crops and government mandates.

Midwestern farmer lobby is strong and SCOTUS fucked up by making genes patentable. Also since US agriculture needs heavy mechanization (labor is expensive, even for illegal slaves) and average it needs all the efficiency it can get, it's pretty labor intensive to detassle corn. Also, clonal corn seed is a thing because they went full max efficiency without regard for the consequences. See, Texas Male Sterile (cytoplasmic) breeding line and southern leaf corn blight.

Then the water has gotten all fucky recently. Really interesting how many "Chinese" or "NE Asian" funguses, algaes, and toxic plant blooms as well as insects have been showing up all over the midwest just in time to polite lakes and water reservoirs.

Stop importing wood products from Mexico and China. Midwest farmers need to stop overspraying as well. It's not gulf coast enough for that.

A show from the early 2000s called Jericho did something like it too. Small town in the middle of nowhere gets cut off after 20+ American cities get nuked and most of the show's runtime was about how hard it was to get basic things with the logistics of the USA shut down. How do you get power without the power grid? How do you get food when your town's store isn't getting shipments in anymore?How do you get information/news when communications are cut off? How do you defend yourself from aggressive neighbours who want what you have and there's no government to protect you? How do you deal with refugees when you barely have enough food to feed you and yours?

It was pretty good for something that lasted only a season and a half.

These are not good numbers. It shows the spread of small and local farms decreasing, the number of corporate mega farms growing. The focus on raw dollar values means it could just be inflated prices going up, or a switch to cash crops instead of normal food supply, which is more likely on those corporate farms.

Agricultural policy used to be a huge issue in Presidential campaigns, now it's not even mentioned. I don't think anyone even bothered pandering to farmer sin Iowa and Wisconsin this year.

Those large ag ops are the type to go under in a recession because they need to keep expanding to not crash. Idaho, WA, OR, MT are suffering from depressed hay exports in China. Twin Falls had several large dairies go bankrupt at one point.

Mostly just too low fat. Sometimes called rabbit starvation but it's really just not eating enough fat or carbs. Humans aren't built to use protein as energy like cats are. Simple fix is eat it with some potato, mix fat into it for sausages, or add any carb or fat source to it. But you can't live off of it alone even if you're starving.

Nobody cares about the debate anymore, hence why kamala is once again sliding down. She didn't convince anybody she'd be better than trump on immigration or the economy,so until she manages it she's losing. And it's gonna take a really fucking strong argument to change any minds at this point
