She's influential with a certain generation that spends most of its time on TikTok and doesn't want to do its own thinking. If Taylor Swift (or worse, a Kardashian) has an opinion, then they must latch onto it.

Who cares? do you think the teenage girls who listen to Taylor Swift would have otherwise voted for Trump? Most of them aren't even of voting age.

I've been thinking for quite a while now that we're going to be in a world of shit when the age of people raised on social media and social media alone hits the political environment and that doesn't appear to be unfounded now.

A base evaluation of your self worth and influence in life is measured by your followers and likes. You get follows and likes by doing outrageous shit. So being in politics and doing outrageous shit will increase your footprint as a politician and drive engagement because anxiety riddled 20's and 30's somethings can't stop scrolling for things that make their brain light up.

Policy, running shit and taking care of business doesn't matter anymore. Politics is becoming a social media product instead of a thing that needs mature, responsible fucking adults who don't care how many likes and followers they have on X. And I don't think things are going to improve, regardless which ideology you subscribe to.

We will put mentally ill trannys in office because the social media optics are favorable.

Yes. Trump's rise to power IS what makes me think that theory's plausibility exists. That's my point. And the paradigm shift in politics with people like MTG, Gaetz, Loomer, Boebert, AOC et al since then only continues that.

I had thought that before Trump but there was nothing to point to as an example. Now there is.
 
Were Bush, Reagan, Bush Sr, Ford, or even Nixon calling their opponents “Comrade” or blatantly accusing them of communist behavior in the build up to the elections?

I have no doubt they may have claimed this in private, but surely they were all smarter than to make it a public statement?
