This article is almost two years old and Microsoft had every reason to exaggerate how long it would be before the next crop of consoles was released.

i dont think we will see a ps6 before 2030, with how things are in the world right now.So we are halfway through the PS5's lifecycle....and it still has absolutely no games

I think it's optimistic to think there's going to be another Xbox at this pointThis article is almost two years old and Microsoft had every reason to exaggerate how long it would be before the next crop of consoles was released.

That was also before Microsoft decided to cuck themselves and keep COD on PlayStation after the Activision deal went thru, and now they're slowly putting all their Xbox games on the Switch and PS5 because no one is buying their console anymore. It's way too late for Xbox to do a 180 at this point, that ship sailed a decade ago with the Xbox One and how bad they fucked that up combined with the dire lack of exclusives on their console. Xbox is pretty much a glorified Gamepass subscription box at this point.I think it's optimistic to think there's going to be another Xbox at this point
RTS wasn't a niche genre at the time.Outside of Crysis there were no real exclusives anymore outside of niche genres.
I'm pretty sure they got a name for those kind of parties. And then you look at Astro Bot, brimming with “Remember when PlayStation used to be the coolest thing in the world?” references, from Parappa the Rapper to Ape Escape to Shadow of the Colossus, and it’s like… yeah, I do remember that, and I can only remember it, because that’s not the kind of company Sony is now. This is a party primarily for things that don’t exist anymore.
It would be insanely retarded to buy CoD and NOT keep it going on Playstation. That was also before Microsoft decided to cuck themselves and keep COD on PlayStation
Isn't there an RTS based on Left Behind?Folks complain a lot about hero shooters and mobalikes, but back in the day RTSs just blew themselves into saturation at a record pace I've yet to see again. It didn't matter that your tie-in game was based on Lord of the Rings or Wuthering Heights or freaking Bonanza, the game had to be an RTS
Good times and good games. C&C, Battle for Middle Earth, Star Wars Empire at War, Supreme Commander, etc...It didn't matter that your tie-in game was based on Lord of the Rings or Wuthering Heights or freaking Bonanza, the game had to be an RTS.
Not if you're aiming for a successful traditional console business model (which I think Microsoft has effectively given up on at this point). Having popular franchises exclusively on your platform was always the bread and butter of the console market. It would be insanely retarded to buy CoD and NOT keep it going on Playstation.
No, it would still be fucking retarded because the CoD player base is primarily on Sony consoles and we're in the mid stage of the console generation soon to enter the late stage. This isn't even getting into the contracts with Sony they had to legally take over to even get the sale to pass. Not if you're aiming for a successful traditional console business model (which I think Microsoft has effectively given up on at this point). Either way, your goal is to use the allure of exclusives to bring as many players as possible to your platform from your competitor's platform. What Microsoft is doing now is giving up on the Xbox brand entirely and positioning themselves as a very large platform-agnostic publisher. No, it would still be fucking retarded because the CoD player base is primarily on Sony consoles and we're in the mid stage of the console generation soon to enter the late stage. Maybe it will make sense to make CoD exclusive if/when the next Xbox comes out, but to do it now would be abso fucking lutely retarded considering where the market is and how much they spent for the brand.
Not if doing so is going to cost you more money than just selling the game to everyone.Either way, your goal is to use the allure of exclusives to bring as many players as possible to your platform from your competitor's platform.
Yes.What Microsoft is doing now is giving up on the Xbox brand entirely and positioning themselves as a very large platform-agnostic publisher.
I'm sure Nintendo would sell more units if they made Mario and Zelda games multi-platform, but it would dramatically reduce the value of their own platform. Not if doing so is going to cost you more money than just selling the game to everyone.
Yeah, Nintendo has a valuable platform.I'm sure Nintendo would sell more units if they made Mario and Zelda games multi-platform, but it would dramatically reduce the value of their own platform.
So Nintendo has a valuable platform because of a large stable of exclusive franchises, but Microsoft shouldn't attempt to develop their own stable of exclusive franchises because their platform isn't valuable.Yeah, Nintendo has a valuable platform.
Microsoft doesn't.
^this. Nintendo has always been budget-conscious and frugal to a fault. They are here to make a lot out of a little. Their hardware is noticeably less powerful so they can generate profit from console sales alone. Eiji Aonuma once claimed Wind Waker HD cost more money than the original Wind Waker did, even though it was mainly just a couple of graphical filters and some minor gameplay tweaks. Which says to me the budget for Wind Waker must have been very, very, very tiny. And Nintendo games are priced very aggressively. There’s no such thing as a “cheap Nintendo game” and they rarely do deep discounts. And if you look, multiple Nintendo games crack the best selling games of all time. If anyone is making any meaningful profit in the games space, it is Nintendo. Also Nintendo didn't just spend literal BILLIONS on Mario and Zelda. I also assume that the production budget of the typical Mario and Zelda game doesn't come anywhere close to the yearly CoD release.
Therefore it would be bad for other platforms to emulate their success? If anyone is making any meaningful profit in the games space, it is Nintendo.
