Plagued /r/TNOmod and the Reddit HOI4 modding community - When a subreddit for a video game mod turns to utter insanity

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
Funnily Muppetfan had Loud House Porn plastered on his main account and even drew some of it himself, I recall it was brought up and he very quickly had to clean it all up
Mother fucker.... Could be worse I guess. Why can't we just have funny autists anymore, why do all of them need to have some really disturbing shit attached?

Honestly kinda want to play this.
This pretty much sums up the legacy of HOI's modding subculture. It's like a cocktail that checks all of the boxes you can think of when it comes to toozer mods:
  • Internet celebrities and media personalities as political leaders
  • Anachronistic references in regards to timeframe
  • Collage of absurd meme-y countries
  • Collapsed nation to reunify
  • Old Windows aesthetic
The cherry on top is the author throwing in their hyperfixations, which seems to be millenial cartoons, muppets in particular. It's really surreal to look at, even when compared to other shit you can find on the modding subreddit, and if it were to ever come out it would probably warrant atleast a closer look.

Regardless of the porn stuff, his reddit post history still reads like a case-study of generic autist behaviour on the internet. He frequents subreddits for Sonic, Nickelodeon and Disney Channel for example.

I was dying of boredom this weekend so I tried to do a WerBell run in TNO and dear god is the mod bloated now. My computer is beefy enough to run KX very well and all the slowdowns from the "economic" system and all the minigames was just too unbearable. I'm pretty sure they also haven't done any actual playtests of the Siberian warlords because there's almost zero supply which makes fighting any war a massive pain in the ass. I'm really hoping TFR will be the final nail in the coffin of TNO and we can get back to mods with actual gameplay.
That is a Paradox problem actually due to No Step Back which infamously makes anything that isn't western Europe borderline unplayable since it's hard coded to make western USSR be unbearable for Germany. You'll run into the same issues in other mods too where you fight in Siberia. Red Flood was also a slog last time I played as One State out there and the only workaround is to let these tags cheat. Using the old supply system (where having railroads everywhere isn't a requirement) everything was a lot better. Agree on TFR though.

Same. I could see that being a fun experience if you take it for what it is.

That's historically inaccurate though the Russians were getting their kicked by the Germans and the only reason the Germans started losing is because of the massive allied bombing campaign screwing up the supply lines the United States and Great Britain could have single handedly defeated the Germans without the help of Soviet meet waves

Don't want to get into a debate on WW2 but it's a common gameplay design trope you see in a lot of strategy games so I can't fault them too much for it. But it did absolutely ruin a lot of mods where you're meant to play in areas without any railroads and I preferred the old system since it made it easier to play in places like interior China, Africa and South America too.

This is the kind of autism I want to see more of in general, too long have we been blasted with weird sexual shit and literal crimes, no more should we need to read about how feetfucker88 groomed a minor on discord, we must rvturn to pure, happy autism.

This is the part where someone quote replies me telling me Muppetfan is a convicted child rapist or something, isn't it? At the very least, fascist Sheldon Cooper is a inspired choice.
Muppetfan is mocked by many on reddit but he is doing what he loves. Being a happy little guy. And for his autism he actually makes decent portraits. I am actually impressed this is done seemingly by one guy with autism. He may have tism but its the kind that makes him an efficient eccentric artist that makes him work hard to put his vision to code. His biggest hurdle is the social situations and if he takes the bullying of redditors to heart, who ironically typically say they support artists like this but then kvetch when an actual creative genius of our time comes along.

TL;DR. God speed Muppet-fag.

I'd argue they don't even playtest most of TNO's "content".
This can be true in Russia. I mostly submod TNO for myself since as much as I (and perhaps others) shit on it is the concept is not bad. We just wish TNO would stop fucking it up. Was making a warlord state in Russia but ToolBox theory ruined it as well. Why? Well in the background there are monthly checks or so for the economy. That does not sound bad but it does a grave sin that honestly I am surprised paradox did not have foresight for. If a certain tag is not on the map the game crashes since a scripted effect cannot run. I am not talking about it not being in the game files. No if you accidentally eat certain warlords early such as the Ural nations and they are not on the map the game will fucking crash as its looking for a tag that does not exist. TNO punishes you for something normally in HOI4 gameplay, which is taking over another nation.

Not even a TNO issue either as I feel a lot of modders do not play test their mods since they legit are terrible at video games and this one. Hence the focus on the visual novel aspects as they cheat on the war part anyway. The conspiracy side of me wants to think that TNO devs did the aforementioned thing on purpose. As if its giving me a pain in the ass on submodding I can only imagine how it effects a mod like the 2ndWRW.

I have to appreciate the hopefully-intentional comedy of a republic of "nautical nonsense" being extremely landlocked. This looks like a complete mess, but in a way much more entertaining than most other mods like it.

I would bet money that he hasn't actually touched the code beyond making new tags and assigning states to them. Hell, I would not be surprised if those leader portraits arent even ingame since that would require character coding. I'm afraid that in the end it's just another toozer mod. But let's hope I'm wrong.

As far as i'm Aware, UK and USA content might be coming out in the same update

One of the devs was asked about whether or not the UK will be having any Authoritarian paths and they've said that "As of now, there will be very likely Authoritarian Routes for the United Kingdom to undertake."
Obviously they're not gonna reveal everything straight away, but it's nice we're thrown a bit of a bone.

Komi rework is happening. They're finally cutting the last thread to their past.

This coupled with their confirmation that there's some other wild content to come makes me feel hyped. With this and TFR coming out soon, I feel like the dark ages might actually be over for HOI4.

TNO be like "I'M REWOOOOOOOOORKING!!!!" deletes all content

Blair is like the Brtitish Antichrist but that doesn't matter, for the purposes of the mod they need to address these sort of ideologies and political figures around the world. And Blair's "New Labour" was indeed a monumental shift in UK politics which needs to be portrayed.

It will be interesting seeing how will they depict these figures once they dig into the 2000s content for more nations. Most of them were extremely popular during their tenures, but have been universally disparaged (or at least suffered a large fall from grace) in retrospective. Blair and Dubya in the UK and US respectively, Aznar in Spain, Fox in Mexico, Uribe in Colombia, Menem, De la Rúa, and Kirchner (the man, and to lesser extent the woman) in Argentina, the ANC as a whole in South Africa, the dozens of politicians killed thanks to the Arab Spring, etc, etc.

Seeing that they depicted Saddam in a very neutral manner, I hope that they try to portray them with the perspective of the era, as that's what would make the most sense

I cant tell if tno is a mod with a neoliberal bias or a mod with a socialist bias it seems like there are two different seperate teams pushing the mod in weird contradicting ways

A lot of the old TNO ex-devs, mainly Panzer and Pacifica, started out as libs that became commies. The new devs seem to be that type of progressive millenial liberals which seemingly don't know about world history past the year 1999.

The wholesum 100 Sablin and ultra-based an-com Krasnoyarsk, as well as the OG Gus Hall, come from the first group. New Gus Hall comes from the second group
