Really it's more like an EP because he's only got like 5 songs.

It will never release.

There’s a disabled artist I know (suffers from chronic Canadianism) that seems to have this hype and release cycle figured out.

Announce through social media that your next song or album is coming up in a week. Posts along the way mentioning the new song. Then a stream to play the new song and release it on multiple platforms. Most importantly it’s for sale on some of these platforms.

Having been in the biz for nearly a decade, ol Rusty still loves to set release dates impossibly long into the future. Our magical star buddy is a constant source of wonder.

A knitting designer I follow does this, announces a new project and over the next couple of weeks posts "progress shots" of the pattern, then releases it. A few more weeks go by and she's doing this on another project.

What she's really doing is working on multiple projects, she takes those hype photos weeks before the pattern is ready to be released, and just drops them while working finalizing the next project, repeat. I suspect your friend does similar, because that's how you build an audience, through consistent releases of new content.

The difference between professional creators and Russ is the pros treat creating as a job and apply a consistent work ethic to it. Most knitting designers don't make a living wage, but if work on your project a couple hours a night, every night you can do at least two small projects a month or a big one every couple months.

Mercedes Lackey put out tons of novels over the course of her career, more than fifty I think, and for many years she did so while holding down a full time job. Every night after work she'd write for two hours. You can get a lot done in two hours if you actually work at it.

But Russ does not understand this cycle of being consistent and while he always has some sort of work, he lacks the work ethic to make it in a creative business. If he had kept a regular schedule with his music over the last ten years he might have non-Kiwi fans and a career. Too bad he let's his disability get in his own way.

Yeah, but all she got for her hard work was a bunch of Mercedes Lackey books.
