Two 8-month-old pit bulls that were loose in Nanaimo attacked several children, severely injuring at least one. Other people that came to aid the children were also injured.

The children were playing in a yard at the house of one of their friends. The dogs were from somewhere else in the neighborhood and had been cited for being at large previously.

One of the owners of the dogs came and got the dogs but did not stick around. The news interviewed the other owner, a Dangerhair that looked to be in her late 40s or early 50s. While she was devastated at what her dogs had done, she said to the reporter, "People are saying, look at this from the prospective of a parent, well, these dogs are my kids, too," and then she broke down crying.

It was later reported both dogs were euthanized, as there have been other incidents prior to this one, and due to the severity of the injuries the one particular child sustained.

To the dangerhair dog owner I would have to say, "If these dogs were your KIDS, you did a lousy job of raising them. Thank heavens you didn't spawn any of your own."

I've never heard of a crazy cat lady's pets mauling babies to death.
That's because they aren't using them right!

There have been instances of cats, seeking warmth, accidentally suffocating babies. Just goes to show that you shouldn't leave children and animals unsupervised around one another.
That is where the wives' tale about cats "stealing a baby's breath" (and by extension being witches) comes from...but consider that when this happens (and how often does this even happen anymore?) the cat is at least not doing it out of aggression or because it has an instinct telling it to kill the baby.

I believe there is some evidence to suggest that dogs and cats (or the smarter ones anyway) can sort of understand there's a difference between an adult human and younger ones. But they still don't have the brain power to truly understand the limitations different age groups have. Every cat owner will tell you that cats enjoy sleeping on or around your chest, head, and neck area. A cat sees a baby and just thinks "this is made of warm, therefore I must sit" or "I want to cuddle with this small human/my group member" just like they do when it comes to cuddling with adults. If a cat "steals a baby's breath" it really is an accident, unlike "Nala's 'accidental' love nips" that always just so happen to require 30 stitches or worse.

But you don't really see anyone advocating for allowing cats to have free reign around infants and toddlers. You don't really see many cat people posting pictures of their cat laying on top of their newborn, either, do you?

A man has denied having dangerously out of control XL Bully dogs which fatally attacked a grandmother.
Esther Martin, 68, was visiting a property in Jaywick, near Clacton-on-Sea in Essex, on 3 February when she was killed.
Ashley Warren, 40, pleaded not guilty at Chelmsford Crown Court to two counts of owning or being in charge of a dog dangerously out of control causing injury resulting in death. He was told he would face trial in August 2025.
He was the first person to be charged with dog-related offences after the XL Bully breed was banned in England two days before Ms Martin's death.
Made it two whole days after the ban before nannying someone to death.

Ah yes, the ass crack is very cute, very fun to look at all the time....

My shelter is making me wild out again. A few days ago they sent out an email telling us about handling instructions and that we should leave notes like "no teen walkers" or "don't walk this one alone"
and also MUST BE MUZZLED"

bruhhhhhhhhhhhhh if a pitbull requires being muzzled in order to just walk outside in a penned in area with no other dogs even visible, why the fuck are you offering them for adoption? There are so many more dogs out there that don't have a temperament requiring a fucking muzzle to walk out every day. And it's always pitbulls. Not even other high strung breeds like huskies needed muzzles being walked out every day, despite pent up energy supposed to make them more crazy.

They're not even nice to pet. It's more like rubbing stubble than fur.

I get so pissed when I see shelters bending over backward to accommodate any aggressive dog. I remember watching Animal Planet in the 90's when I was little. They rehabilitated dogs in some show and they would show the testing they had to do to make sure the dogs were safe to adopt out. One dog was very sweet, but he was put down when he reacted aggressively when someone stuck their (fake) hand in his food while he was eating. I thought it was too harsh as a kid, but I get it now. You can't waste limited space on an animal that's aggressive when there's better tempered dogs that could be helped instead.

Pitbulls should be barred from no kill shelters, full stop.

Remember this story from a couple of weeks ago? Here's the wife of the shitbag owner, and a follow up article in the NY Post, detailing how these shitbags were breeding and purposely trained their dogs to be extra aggro.
Happy to share a pleasing outcome for this tragedy. The shitbag shitbull owners were sentenced to 18 years and 15 years in prison for this. The judge delivered an unfathomably based monologue during sentencing in which she also shat on the city (guess she doesn't care about reelection).

Texas couple gets lengthy prison sentences after their pit bulls mauled elderly veteran to death

A Texas couple whose pit bulls viciously mauled an elderly veteran to death will each spend nearly a decade behind bars for the unprovoked attack.

Ramon Najera, 81, died when he was attacked by two dogs that had escaped their yard and charged at him and his 74-year-old wife, Juanita, in San Antonio.

San Antonio first responders who arrived to the scene witnessed Najera’s bloodied body being dragged by one of the dogs involved in the deadly attack. The dogs then attacked firefights, who were forced to fight them off with pick axes.
The dogs’ owners – Christian Morena and Abilene Schneider – were each slapped with lengthy prison sentences on Friday for the deadly mauling on Feb. 24, 2023, according to the Bexar County Criminal District Attorney’s Office.

Juanita told the court on Friday that she now suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder and “extreme loneliness and emptiness”, according to courtroom video by WOAI. "I would never have imagined I’d be calling myself a widow at this time in my life, and in this tragic way,” she said. “PTSD is now something I will have to deal with the rest of my life.”

Morena will spend the next 18 years behind bars, with Schneider receiving a 15-year prison sentence, with the DA’s Office stating the couple was criminally negligent by not providing adequate fencing and allowing the dogs to roam free.

The married couple is also prohibited from ever owning or possessing dogs again, prosecutors said.

The horror unfolded when Najera and Juanita, who had just arrived on the street to visit friends, stepped outside of their vehicle and were suddenly attacked by the dogs – who were not leashed or restrained.

The pets escaped from the yard and bolted for Najera, latching onto him and dragging him along the street before they were eventually warded off by firefighters with axes.

Najera died as a result of the attack, and three others, including Juanita, also suffered injuries.

DA Joe Gonzales called the unprovoked attack a “preventable” tragedy.

“The defendants’ failure to act responsibly and secure their pit bulls resulted in injuries and the loss of a life. I believe the defendants received adequate punishment and justice has been served for the Najera family,” Gonzales said in a news release.

The widow of the elderly Air Force veteran filed a wrongful death lawsuit in March against the dog owners over the death of her husband.

She stated that Morena and Schneider failed to secure, monitor and control their dogs and knew they were dangerous, according to the Bexar County filing, cited by News4SA.

Before Schneider was arrested, she publicly apologized to the Najera family but maintained the death wasn’t her husband’s fault. Schneider said that after the dogs were fix, they became more aggressive and started fighting each other.

The dogs, Staffordshire terriers named King and Snow, along with a third dog, were taken by animal control and euthanized shortly after the attack.

Shitbulls for home invasion defense?
Wasn't there a story about some dude's house getting broken into and he had 2 shitbulls and instead of attacking the intruder they just ran outside and killed a random dog on the street?
Wouldn't doubt it. I know I've heard stories about "guard" pits turning on their owners during a break-in.

That dog was neurotic, a proper guard dog sees off a threat/perceived threat and then goes right on back to being a normal dog. They don't sit for hours waiting for the threat to return. That's just asking to get attacked when you try and move the dog somewhere else, and it's been so wound up all day it turns on you.
