How would you suggest to make a fake thatched roof?

It's for trunk or treat. I've figured out the chicken legs, the stove, and the skull fence. But I can't come up with any way to make a roof that isn't just measuring the proper amount of cardboard, and buying a bale of straw and pulling it apart, and gluing it in place.

Only the bad ones who can't pick all of the grain from the ashes before I get home from a busy day of kidnapping princesses and braiding the hair of peasants in their sleep.

Damn. That is a great idea that is apparently really expensive. I need money for candy, too, y'know.
