I just saw this, so apologies for the late response.

Many federal field agents do not want their identity publicly disclosed because, in the age of the Internet, that means they can never, ever work undercover. I think that some feds also know that being what they are makes them unpopular with certain people and they do not want to be harassed in their private lives.

Also, there are no laws requiring federal agents to identify themselves. They will not do things they aren't required to do. If they deem it necessary for an investigation or for their own personal safety, they will not identify themselves.

Many people also sperg out because they think having a camera protects them. It does not - only you obeying the law protects you. These agents probably wanted to wait and see what the guy would do. When it became obvious that he wasn't going to talk and he wasn't going to make a mistake, they left.

A lot of the time, law enforcement relies on compliance to get their way. "May I come in?" Now they can enter your house and, if they see something "suspicious," they can look around. "Can we talk?" Now you're in a conversation with them and they will use anything you say against you in their investigation.

The guy taking the video should have asked: "do you have a warrant or do you have papers to serve me?" The second those agents said no, or refused to answer, he should have gone back inside. This is what everyone should do. Never interact with police unless you must. If you must, be non-violent, polite, and shut the fuck up unless you need food, water, or a toilet. Only speak to a lawyer. Doing anything else is evidence that the police can use against you.

I got out of a lot of trouble as a teenager by simply remaining silent.

I think these rallies are good moves for Trump for various reasons:

1. This year, Trump and Vance have been eager to go to enemy territory, highly contrasting with the Dems strategy of an echo chamber. He’s showing that he’s bold, he’s serious, and that he can compromise in a unity government (whatever that means).
2. It emboldens conservatives. For eight years you’ve basically had to hide that you support Trump, and these events show that supporting Trump is not only a reasonable choice, but that you shouldn’t be ashamed of it.
3. NY and DC are close to NJ and MD, respectively. Some people believe that Trump has a chance of winning those states, and a lot of are willing to travel closer for a rally.
4. They get a lot of press. Yesterday’s event was highly hyped because Trump was doing the impossible. It was in high spirits. This helps energize Trump voters but also get his message across a lot more independents. Remember that many watch rallies, or clips of rallies, from anywhere in the country.
