oh i completely forgot, there was a comic con in my area 2 weeks ago, and it featured some marvel heavy weights like CB Cebulski, Peach Momoko, Michael Zeck and more Marvel artists.... and there was not much people waiting in line for them....

everyone was lining up waiting to buy the newly released RG Gundam 2.0 since Bandai set up a booth to sell model kits....kek

I've seen some reviews of The Maxx on YouTube. It falls into two kind of review tracks. Going into the story, explaining the premise/characters/themes and then surface level reviews, "I don't like it, its weird." In fairness, The Fandom Grift would hate the Maxx as well. Trauma, mental health, spirit animals, mention of feminism? The lead female, Julie, by god, she doesn't have a 10 out of 10 body, some belly fat. They'd lose their shit.

Maxx's biggest fault, it was a comic too good for a style over substance (at the time) Image comics. To get its critical due, it needed another publishing logo. It was along side laughable comics like Youngblood, snoozers like Cyberforce, etc.

I seem to recall people saying Zack would lean into Spawn's military background if he had control of the IP, some time ago in this thread, hell, that might of made the book better than Todd using him as a stand-in to tell us how much he loved his wife, Wanda, over and over and over again. You shouldn't do the same beat more than 3 times without moving on. People get bored, Todd, you fucking hack.

There's alot of IP that simply came out before grifting on YouTube, oh excuse me, "fighting the culture war" one super chat at a time became a thing. Great content that is beloved and no one has problems with. No one cared that Kim Possible was a kids program for girls or that she the type A personality, Ron the type B. If it was made today, these idiots would rip it apart. Oh they wouldn't you claim, yet they made zillions on Snow White, so yes, they would.

Plenty of things just had the good fortune to come out before The Last Jedi, the starting point for all this shit.

I remember buying individual issues of The Maxx from a grocery store spinning rack thing that comics used to be sold on. I didn't understand it, but there was something interesting about it. Now that I am much older it really is an amazing comic.

I agree that Image at the time was pretty shit.

anyway, yeah, the comics collecting scene in asia has been very bad, there was more people in line in the DanDanDan anime preview than watching Marvel artists' panels. asians only consume superhero movie slop, but only few buy comics.

there were few that goes to them to have their shit signed, but i dont know if they ask for money, and that may be a huge reason why they drew so little crowd. some pics from the con, scoured from the internet

I'm not surprised by that, but that was why I brought up Rings of Power which Disparu is currently doing (along with a number of others). I don't think Zack has mentioned it, I assume because it isn't on Disney+. It makes me think Zack is just defending Disney, but then stuff like Caped Crusader and Penguin are Warner Bros so that can't be it.

Also, lmao, wtf is The Penguin and how is Agatha for tween girls? The youngest woman on the poster is 38 years old. The target audience is marvel aunties, another thing Meyer used to make fun of.

What sucks is there is definitely a male demographic that loves supernatural shows and feels nostalgic about the OG Charmed show, myself included, but you can't cater to them in 2024. Aubrey is cool, but you need an Alyssa Milano equivalent.

To be fair, comic book collecting seems to be an American thing for the most part. Most European countries didn't even have a way to collect this kind of stuff before ebay, and it's not like there's interest in localized versions.

Momoko in particular was in NYCC in 2022 and she caused quite a stir, with huge waiting lines. She was offering free signatures for up to 10 books. Naturally a bunch of resellers descended on her like locusts, entering the line again and again, making it miserable for everyone there. I wouldn't be surprised if she's charging now.
