I think there's more than few middle aged posters on the Farms who feel this sort of regret, which is why it resonates so much with them. They may not be dying like Jim, but the realization that you spent the best years of your life shitposting, playing games and other ephemeral bullshit, and you wake up and notice that there's now a lot of doors in life that are permanently closed and never going to be opened and you just have to move forward from there hits hard.

For me, it's moreso that he's the perfect example of how the nicer people get fucked over. If Jim was an insular figure with nothing else around him it wouldn't be so bitter to see unfold.

I never saw any evidence that he’s a Johnny come lately to having his priorities in order. Hell, he’d disappear for months at a time and then come back saying he had family shit to deal with, some of which he’s spoken a bit about more lately (e.g. being responsible for sorting out his mother’s care and affairs as her health deteriorated prior to her death, and then dealing with probate and all the aftermath of that). Real, grown-up life shit keeps happening no matter what, unless you’re the proverbial neckbeard living in mom’s basement. I don't have a solution, but I do have a radical method to prolonging Jim's life and reversing the symptoms.

Parabiosis.

For those who don't know, parabiosis is the act of getting a young, healthy person to give their blood to a person who's old and/or dying. This has the effect of reversing the recipient's age and unfucking their medical problems, however there is a cost. Since the young blood doesn't possess the same DNA of the recipient, it will give them cancer. However, Jim already has cancer so that caveat is already covered.

Even if Jim gets super ultra mega cancer-AIDS, he'll at least not have frail bones and extreme pain.

And who knows, maybe it'll give him Three Stooges Syndrome.
