His wife is from what I can gather a teacher at Deakin University which isn't surprising.
The best course of action I can think of is to notify the local police and to send any pertinent information their way.
Also maybe send the file dump to a local paper, herald sun would be the best bet.

My thought is that she's a career woman gone eight hours a day and his 10 acre "rural kiwi lifestyle" involved a lot of dogs and friends with dogs. Dogs coming and going was probably ordinary course of business, he could say he was watching someone's dogs for the weekend, and if the dog was killed or went back home, she would be none the wiser.
