Two 8-month-old pit bulls that were loose in Nanaimo attacked several children, severely injuring at least one. Other people that came to aid the children were also injured.

The children were playing in a yard at the house of one of their friends. The dogs were from somewhere else in the neighborhood and had been cited for being at large previously.

One of the owners of the dogs came and got the dogs but did not stick around. The news interviewed the other owner, a Dangerhair that looked to be in her late 40s or early 50s. While she was devastated at what her dogs had done, she said to the reporter, "People are saying, look at this from the prospective of a parent, well, these dogs are my kids, too," and then she broke down crying.

It was later reported both dogs were euthanized, as there have been other incidents prior to this one, and due to the severity of the injuries the one particular child sustained.

To the dangerhair dog owner I would have to say, "If these dogs were your KIDS, you did a lousy job of raising them. Thank heavens you didn't spawn any of your own."

That dog was neurotic, a proper guard dog sees off a threat/perceived threat and then goes right on back to being a normal dog. They don't sit for hours waiting for the threat to return. That's just asking to get attacked when you try and move the dog somewhere else, and it's been so wound up all day it turns on you.
My mastiff recently got to do what she was bred for. One night, someone was fucking around the neighbor's yard. I was letting her out to pee and play. She sees this guy trying to hide behind an electric pole and lets out the scariest bark I've ever heard from her. Dude runs in a direction where she can still see him. She runs the perimeter of her fence and keeps barking until he decides he'd rather not find out. She stays on guard throughout the night, but doesn't stare nothing down. Just keeps an eye and ear out for any more weirdos.

My big girl got a lot of high value treats that night. She isn't even trained to be a guard dog and she knew exactly what to do. She seemed to be having the time of her life scaring him off.

Dogs love doing what they're bred to do. Retrievers will run themselves to death retrieving. Herders will herd anything within reach. Pitbulls will maul you if you breathe. And all of them will be happy while they do it.

In the usual vein of British judges being utterly fucking useless, if not actively malicious: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c78degw6wx0o

Seventeen suspected XL bully dogs have been spared death after magistrates opted not to impose destruction orders. The BBC was in court to hear the stories of these animals and their owners.
Magistrates in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, sat in a special session over two days last week to determine the future of the dogs.
Each had been found to be unregistered with the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra), a breach of the Dangerous Dogs Act that was amended in October 2023 to include XL bullies.
Magistrates had to be satisfied the owners were fit and proper people, that the dogs had passed police inspections and that registered addresses were secure.
The RSPCA said it was pleased the courts had given these dogs a lifeline, saying the owners would now be able to keep them lawfully.
Norfolk Police has not commented, but its legal representative said it could only apply for destruction orders, which could be modified by courts to spare the animal.
There's a list of all the dogs with a bit of info about their cases so we can take bets on which one nanny's an innocent first, my money is on Dina:
Dina lives in a house with five young children and two other dogs. Her owner did not want her to be destroyed but magistrates said: "This is a test about the public."

Repulsive dead eyed.

How about calling the proposed Dog/Pet Culture thread "Furbabies and the Retards Who Own Them"?
How the fuck do people find these cute? Why do people willingly choose to get these things out of every other dog breed available

I have no idea. Chihuahuas are cuter than pits. The only thing I can think of is they subconsciously associate pitbulls with the dog from The Pokey Little Puppy.

I'm currently waiting for a bus and there's some black chick with a pitbull, wearing a pink leash and shit. It's barked once for no reason, and a kid has pet it. Far as I can tell from overhearing, they're not taking the same bus, but it's still unnerving to have one in the same vicinity. Send good vibes.

Also I swear pitbulls have no fur whatsoever, just all leather skin.

They have fur. It's coarse and so short that it pricks your hand as you pet them. My friend who owns too many of them is always complaining about hair splinters, and I guarantee it's allllllways pit bull hair.

The pitmommies claim the monsters are velvet hippos, having actually pet them I'm convinced they're legitimately insane. Even if you rub them the direction the fur grows in it's nothing even close to velvet.

I had a short furred dog growing up, while his fur was coarse, it was much smoother on the hand. Completely different experience.
