Several years after announcement, Jeph Jacques' Questionable Content finally made it to an important story event... And just rushed through it after spending months on extremely uninteresting characters and stories. Even his fans are miffed by it. Many suspect that he's rushing towards ending the comic, which he had also sort of planned to do for years.
For context: Years ago in real time two characters got engaged. The wedding was supposed to be something like three weeks later in comic time. Jorf spent the past year worth of comics detailing about three days of comic time, preparing going on a job interview, going on a job interview, meeting new characters, introducing them to everyone, three extremely boring parties, and then finally jumps to the wedding right into the ceremony in a single page. This ceremony includes numerous errors in continuity (location, who officiates, bridesmaids positioning) that are completely unexplained, and glossed over pretty much everything coming up to it. No bachelorette parties, no planning, no introduction of two of the bridesmaids that have never been seen. While I've been hanging on to this comic mainly out of habit for at least ten years at this point, I never really got angry at its decline in quality. But this was pretty bad even for Jeph's standards.

Tai (quirky stoner lesbian boss) and Dora ("bisexual" who used to date Jeph's self insert, the one now fucking the "quirky" tranny) got married. I thought it might have been Fae (quirky tsun who friendzoned jeph's self insert) and the WarBot she's fucking; oh man,"Veterans Issues" Warbot is a character that has aged like fine fucking milk.
What standards? Since when has Handstab has standards?
"Eventually progressing all female characters to a butch lesbian 'rooster tail fringe' haircut" is a design choice, not a standard.

Fair enough. The last time the comic had any sort of standards was over 2000 strips ago.
And even then they were low.
Well. I'm glad it seems that the comic is ending. I've stuck with it for basically half my life, and the desire to see it through to the bitter, bitter end is strong.

I'm not surprised, for the past decade it's felt like Jeph was sick of doing QC and wanted to move to something else, but that Alice Grove thing fell apart horribly and instead of trying something else, he just put more robots and lesbians into QC, making it unrecognizable from what it used to be, despite the art style not really changing much over the years.
What the fuck is he planning to do instead though? Dude's only 44, too young to retire. Unless he's been really good with his money (QC used to be really popular in the 00s, some days getting half a million hits) I doubt he has much in the bank he could live off of.

Hard to tell. I think he wants to get rid of the old cast and focus more on whacky robot hijinks or something.
Trying to wrap up shit now with the wedding arc, send off Marten and Claire, and then start something new under a new name.
But he's pissing off even his hard-core fans right now with this rushed wedding, so who knows how much good will they're gonna give. I think he still makes a lot of money from it, but I doubt he can retire on it.

Ironic, because for the past like decade and a half I've been sick of him doing QC as well
The problem is Handstab has spent too much time huffing his own farts and has Jenkem-pattern hypoxia brain damage - which is a problem because he was midwit tool before. He made a quasi-edgy sex & fart joke comic with soap opera relationship drama. But now the edgy sex and fart jokes are problematic and all of his retarded soap opera drama resulted in fags; he can't break up the fag couples because the internet fag & hag collective would lynch him. And he doesn't want to write highschool relationship drama and poop jokes, he wants to write a SRS COMMENTARY where he can do more than just snide jabs at Nazis and *theists (heh) as he unloads the latest talking points of the paranoid depressives at /r/transhumanism.
What Handstab fails to account for is:
1) His art is bad. Its servicable enough to convey general information, but no one is going to read his stuff for the art. And despite the length of time he has in the game, he hasn't improved in over a decade. Tim Goddamn Buckley is drawing circles around him now.
2) His writing is bad. Again, the dialogue is servicable for a fart & fucking jokes comic, or to set up his relationships dramas, but no one is reading his textual diarrhea on its own merit.
3) He's a fucking moron with no original thoughts. Every single bit of MODERN, TOPICAL discussions in his comic ages like fine milk because he's just parroting the current r/politics hivemind group think. And his ideas are sheltered new england hipster shitlib thought, the sort of thing that has the rainbow crowd marching in support of a people who would throw them off a rooftop if given the chance.
4) The internet art field was a lot less crowded when he got his pack of simps.
He lacks the visual appeal to attract new readers, his writing isn't good enough attract new fans on merit, and he isn't saying anything new. There is zero chance of him doing a project that is successful, though he'll likely be able to keep a small pack of simps and probably get enough to live on via patreon by just drawing QC epilogue comics.
tl;dr: Jeph is so interested in robots and lesbianism because he's a low-testosterone NPC with no independent will.
Regarding finances: Handstab was selling a new t-shirt from his comic like every week. I haven't followed his life or finances, but just going on what I know from numbers of other comicteers - if he was not a fucking retard and doesn't have children or other expensive hobbirs he could stop and coast to retirement though it might be a little tight.
But its Handstab so being a retard is likely and good odds he pissed away his money on vintage shit and paying emo-whores to peg him.

He moved to Canada for the free healthcare, IIRC, so he won't have to pay for a lot of stuff we would. I hope he screws up and gets himself canceled, but I only say that because I truly hate him. He's a hack who somehow got the golden ticket in spite of not being deserving of it in any way.

I could have sworn I saw a post or something about that guy saying they were in an open relationship or something, but I can't find it.
With comics like this we know he's not getting laid any more. There is something that has always been off putting about this guys dialogue. Like if it hadn't been going on for so long I would have thought a lot of the comics were parodies or something.
I know the "not before I have my coffee joke but if this had been a wife saying good morning to her husband and this happened people would say leave.
This is just depressing.
You forgot this comic. I've heard some people rightfully bitching about this comic but I don't know if any drama came from it.

I see this posted on FB sometimes, and it always has a vibe of cringe. Not out and out cringe, but a general patina of cringe. Not even good enough for full-on cringe. His comics always pander to the woke crowd, too. This guy is one of the "muh depression" types, and even when he isn't injecting depression directly, his comics ooze the stuff.
Won't lie, though, I chuckled at the "competition" one.
