To be fair to Biden (I can't believe I'm doing this), if nature wants to bitchslap you then there isn't a lot to be done. A major hurricane is hard to defend against if it's strong enough and hits somewhere that isn't designed from the ground up to withstand the forces of nature.

I agree that it sounds sort of stupid, but Cheney was one of the most powerful vps in my lifetime. I believe the VP can be what you make of it, Kamala wasn't really in charge of anything, and Kamala damn sure isn't on Cheney's level in any way.
But, Kamala will forever be tied to Biden's policies, no way to escape that.

Either Biden gimped her and told her to do shit his cabinet was doing behind the scenes, or she was in charge (which the administration said up until now) and she's a bum. If it was the former, Harris would have said something, which is why most people think it's the latter.
This is kind of the crux of the issue. Either you side with Marxists who want to wreck your shit, or you side with a country that begs for gibs but doesn't want to wreck your shit. The power of a VP waxes and wanes depending on who it is and the presidential administration they're in. All are usually members of the President's inner circle of advisors and president of the Senate at bare minimum. Due to those circumstances they either can have some influence in American policy or just be a fly on the wall whose role amounts to dignitary visits and saying how great the President is doing.

It's a pretty versatile position, you can use it as a damn near honorary title like Biden under Obama, or you can use it as a sort of mentor like Cheney was under Bush.

She says it so that when Trump says she doesn't want to secure the border the fact checkers can go, "FALSE: Kamala Harris said she wants to secure the border!" And then democrats can pass that along to their conservative uncle on Facebook when he says he supports Trump so the border will be secure. Then when Uncle points out the asylum seekers exception the Democrat can say he's an evil nazi for hating refugees.
The fact checkers aren't going to get into the weeds of the reality that her definition of asylum seekers includes basically every potential illegal immigrant.
All of this potentially gets the vote of some moderate white lady who thinks "asylum seekers" or "refugees" are words being used in a wholly honest manner.

That was a terrific speech. He really nailed the point about Trump using empathy in diplomacy. Glenn Diesen often points to the dangers of dismissing the valid security concerns of rival countries-- it is fundamentally unreasonable and the opposite of diplomacy. Whatever Trump's foreign policy is, it is rooted in the reality of negotiation, not obstinate ideology. Despite his brain worm zaniness, RFK Jr can come across as clear eyed and prudent when he wants.
