How do I fit PVC pipe?

I’m fixing a pool. How do I cut and measure that shit? I’m unsure if I have a vice grip in the garage.

Should I cut the whole piece out of the filter and then measure to fit?

Yeah I picked up some red hot and 3 PSI durable 90s and a 45. I’m working on a quarter cut 3 foot straight pipe I’ll be cutting.
It looks fine to me without knowing exactly what you're trying to fit in looks like.
The issue is I went bare minimum from Home Depot to save money and my ass does not want to go back if I fuck it up. I also bought some multi material saw blades.
Those are fine to use.

The blue line is about how far into a fitting you want to measure for your new pipe.
Measuring tape and a hack saw.

What are you trying to do? Make sure you leave enough pipe left on whatever you cut to fit a coupling or a 90 or whatever fitting you want to put on. You solvent weld it together with either the clear pvc glue or the grey PVC glue with purple primer. Be careful you don't spill that purple shit anywhere. It'll make a mess.

I marked the cut points in red. If it’s possible I want to leave the lil pipe alone because I only ordered 1 filter cell collar off Amazon.

I’m guessing I just cut off the far end I’m changing out and then measure it on a table before applying adhesive?

You need PVC glue and primer rated for pools. The extra chlorine will eat the glue. I'm not really sure what your asking, but the engagement for Sch 40 fittings is half a pipe diameter so for 1.5" pipe its .75". Fitting allowance is from the center of the fitting to the face minus engagement.

Putting paper towels down under wherever you are applying the primer and then glue is always a good idea. Do the primer first on the hub, then on the pipe, then apply the remainder of the swab on the hub again, ditto with the glue.

To translate this to layman's terms, the depth of the hub of a fitting is half the diameter of the pipe it fits.
