A fork of Godot has been announced: https://x.com/RedotEngine/status/1840547782160990282 (Archive)

But I'm highly sceptical this will go anywhere. Their 4 developers having 'experience in the tech field' and 2 having 'direct experience with Godot' is not particularly reassuring. Have they actually done any significant work on the engine? This is probably just going to be a rebranded fork that quickly fizzles out.

godot does a lot of cool things but they're bogged down by the utter lack of direction resulting from everyone being able to work on whatever they want. c# is absolutely a second class citizen and requires a separate mono build and .net SDK shit downloaded separately, vertex shading literally got fixed yesterday after four fucking years of the opened issue, so on so forth. sometimes it feels like i really just want something like the Godot editor strapped onto a more stable, smaller and easier to hack engine. having your repo's compilation speed rival Linux's is not supposed to be good!

Forks rarely go anywhere anymore, the energy is gone. A better use of their energy would be making the most heinous bigoted games they can, then releasing them with the Godot engine branding all over it.
Most of the time forks go fucking nowhere. They don't have the contributors knowing every inch of the codebase and no money to put full time contributors into it. Compared to the original project, who still has millions from Epic.

What may make a difference is that Godot is dumb enough to even ban their donors indiscriminately. If they piss off enough of them, a fork may have a chance. If it's Reddit is highly unlikely. The chance is higher that a group of people that got banned from Godot will make their own fork to use for their own games and that may turn into an alternative.

A fork will go nowhere unless a majority of the main developers are behind it. And it looks like that is not the case here.

It is like when a troon forks a project. He forks it and then writes a hundred tweets and blogposts about it but never actually does any development or maintenace
and within a few weeks or a month gets tired of it, abandons it and moves to the next shiny thing.

That is not to say that this project has no problems, they sure do but the problems seems to be related only to the non-developer genderspecials that manage
social media and not the actual engineering. So the easiest way to fix this is not to fork but just kick out the trannines and other gender specials.

You jest but Linux would not be as mainstream as it has become in recent years if it weren't for Valve. Them doing their own shit with Wayland instead of sitting on their hands and waiting for FOSS trannies to stop arguing is emblematic of this.

Godot is just about the only FOSS project to give a shit about anymore because they're disrupting a market that is traditionally all proprietary and doing a really good job at that + not getting tied up in FOSS tranny bullshit, like so many other projects have succumbed to. Bureaucracy has blackpilled me on open source.
Suffice to say this aged like milk.

No project is safe, unless you fight to protect it.

A crisis is an opportunity riding a dangerous wind. (Chinese proverb)

Godot completely forgot that the only reason their engine suddenly became popular is because Unity decided to completely piss of the entire gaming industry with their retarded fucking runtime fees. And now that Unity has decided to cancel all that shit only a few weeks ago, we're suddenly seeing Godot slowly getting ripped apart from the inside thanks to a fucking janny. Of course, none of what's going on should be a surprise considering that the warning signs were all out there.

GameMaker does 2D miles better than godot
Unity does 3D miles better than godot
All the donation funds on godot seem to be misused so why donate anyway compared to buying a license
tell me again why people care about this engine?
It’s because it’s free when you release the game. The engine devs dont get a single speck of money after you release the game. It’s like tax evasion.

as expected, the tranny chasing Godot foundation doubles down

nigger-sayer admin apologizes, omits to mention he called other races slurs too (e.g. "snow nigger")

Remi Verschelde, male feminist weirdo, doubles down and admits that he's the one who's been going around banning people from GitHub

(Side note: despite his posturing here, Rami Ismail has not developed a game in over a decade and instead now works as a "consultant." Those who can't do...)

I really can't believe the defense for calling people that was to claim that he had the N-word pass by virtue of being a self-hating Arab. Really setting the bar low if every non-White ethnic group feels like that word defines them. Then they want to assign disproportionate power to the word so anyone saying it gets to have their life ruined unless they can weasel out of it by proving themselves to be one. I really enjoy the climate that has been cultivated where non-Whites aren't even safe to use the word anymore. Suffah.

Yeah, well, but

If your only selling point is "no small per unit fee when you sell the game", yeah, if that is the only selling point
maybe your game engine isn't really all that commercially viable?
You only plan to licence it to troons that give away their shit games for free to the 5 people that want to play them?
