Mega Rad Gun Thread

Shot my model 29 today, recoil wasn't bad at all. I'm sure the 8 3/8 barrel and scope help weight it down a bit. Now I have confidence to buy a .50AE after my project AR9 and C96 relining of the barrel.
How does relining a barrel work? Is it just like one of this rifled sleeves that are used for some 3D guns, or a different process? Never heard of rebarelling a pistol before

How the fuck do you reline the barrel of a 100+ year old gun?

there is a man that does this for ok pricing. From his site
Installing a new Liner:
1. Drill barrel out to 0.420″ thru and thru
2. Drill to 0.450″ about an 1.25″ deep from the receiver side
3. Make new liner to match profile
4. Install liner using silver alloy
5. Cut new chamber and head-space liner
I think lugerman is currently the only person offering these services still, there used to be a ton of different people that used to offer relining but they no longer exist I think. The C96 I'm doing it on has no rifling left, it was shot out when I got it. I have probably put 300 rounds through it in this condition and it still works though keyholes (obviously). Its not the greatest looking one either, there's a dent on the lower receiver, none of the bluing is left its all patina'd. I could probably just keep it smoothbore but I think I'd enjoy using it past 7 yards.

It’s a pretty tool. I give it a kiss before bed because it keeps me safe. I clean it every time after I shoot. I even started putting pro gold in it. I want to treat it like my baby. If that means giving it a chocolate chip paint job just to eke out another year with it that’s a risk I’m willing to take.

Will painting it ruin it?
The best paint job is wear and tear. Pristine guns give me the willies. It's like getting in a turbo car and seeing that it has less than 1000 miles on. Shoot the fucking paint off it, and then tell the guy looking at it where that scratch came from, and that ding, and that little nubbin of nail polish.....
But as an aside, I think once you break the barrier of the first major blotch on it, you don't seem to notice any of the other. Or really care.

Once we get to heaven —if the Almighty lets us have guns there— we can keep our firearms pristine in a place without entropy. In the meantime, enjoy them, because they might not be around forever anyways.

Has there been anything about the XM7 being used in Ukraine? You think it would be a perfect test ground if you equipped a couple people at the front lines with it just to see how it performs.
That would complicate logistics with its new special snowflake cartridge, plus I don't think the military industrial complex wants examples to fall into Russian hands.

French prototype caseless rifle:

Prototype of a MSD 5.56 caseless assault rifle (Munition Sans Douche). The rate of fire and selector appear to be electrically operated, and the weapon is fed from a magazine located above the barrel.

This MSD is the equivalent of the HK G11, much better known and having benefited from more advanced development.
The only Frog guntuber I know of is apparently going to be covering it at some point.

I don't see that happening. 5.45 and 5.56 seems to be dealing with the body armor issue just fine tbh.

Also does anyone know what good hollow points in 40 S&W are? I know Speer is a no brainer, I'm just wondering about everything else.

Edit, I just want to note the Afghanistan army equipment page on Wikipedia notes the SDVE as a pistol the Taliban have. Lol. I'm buying a Afghanistan certified pistol.

these were part of an aid package to ANSF, which was ANA+ANP unit after the invasion to handle police duties and general security. prior to this they had a lot of old Beretta and Soviet gear, as well as some Glocks and lend-lease stuff, old WW2 gear like Hi Powers, cold war stuff from central europe like Czech Republic or Hungarian body armor and rifles, et c. upper end people had stacks of MP5-PDW's and AKSU's or similar as part of a modernization effort years ago that never went anywhere. while working with my ANA counterparts, there was a lot of law enforcement re-training and indoctrination to break down tribal and familial affiliations and develop a more cultural and national esprit de corps and help unify things between otherwise disparate tribal/rural groups and the cities and help remove some pretty deep-seated divisions among the population.

When I still had a pistol in that caliber & when I could find (or afford) it, I stuck with Barnes TAC-XPD 140gr. or Underwood 135gr. JHP. When my stash got low I could mix them in magazines and not see much of a difference hitting point of aim, unlike Hornady & Federal. Which was surprising, but it may have just been me.

And speaking of...
While it probably depends on the pistol & magazines, I've had issues with Hornady Crit Defence jamming against the top of the chamber, especially the first & second rounds; this happened most in pistols with a steep feed angle/ramp. It seemed counterintuitive to me due to the narrow tip & conelike shape, but I've never had the same issue with anything else.

Not really all that interesting in the broad scheme of things but I thought it was interesting. The object featured below is a DIY Buffer retainer made from a 3D Printed TPU Sleeve and an M3 Bolt. By Pembleton & Sons

I don't know what's going on here, It's a Val, being held by Konstantin Lazarev, but it doesn't have the associated (and very poorly designed) suppressor. Val modified to act as an SR-3? Super short "Moderator", BFA? (I've never even heard of such a thing)

Lastly, I can't find the article (which didn't contain any images) but I've heard reference to an AK made by Krebs Custom that used a gas trap operating mechanism yet like I said, no images. Anyone know what I'm referencing?

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the reason we gave them Sigmas was due to how insanely cheap the .gov could get them. I bet they spent like $100 per pistol, lmao.

Better than a hi-point, imho.
