I’m mad about it. I used to read these and Skullduggery Pleasant with my kids. We lost interest naturally in Percy Jackson when the second camp was introduced. No bullshit had been introduced to the plot yet, beyond some implication that the hell kid was gay, which I was fine with. We just kinda lost interest due to the sheer amount of new stuff after the original plot had been nicely tied.

Then Skullduggery Pleasant introduced a genderfluid kid and started implying Valkyrie had lesbian tendencies in the same book. It’s a particularly egregious example of pandering because the series had a technically trans character (literal male brain transplanted into a female body) without ever saying the word “trans”. He was defined by his actions and contribution to the plot, and was extremely easy to love. You only thought about him as trans if you stopped to think about his situation if it somehow happened IRL. Then the “new” series started and any time the genderfluid kid was on the scene, it would have to talk about its gender shit and how it made it “interesting to others” in a serious way.

Fucking tragic. I don’t even like Harry Potter that much but I have nothing but respect for Rowling. She could have gone Hogwarts 2: Rainbow Magic and made billions, but chose integrity instead.

While Curry is the first and definitive Frank, I have heard/seen several other actors play the role over the years, and they all had enough voice, presence, and charisma to at least put their own spin on the character. Frank killed Eddie with an axe and tried to feed his body to the guests, and he uses people as playthings then discards them, the guys not a good person at all, but Tim Curry is so charismatic he makes you feel bad when Riff Raff fucks him over and kills him at the end.
Following in Tims footsteps would be hard for even a good actor, its why a lot of people still prefer the original IT despite the remake probably being scarier, Curry is a great actor that puts 100% into his roles. I don't think I've ever seen a Tim Curry movie that wasn't great, despite him doing a lot of cheesy and lower budget movies.
