It's the "any two guys" stereotype. These types of fans are actually disliked in a lot of fandoms because they have a specific type of thing they recreate with characters from different fandoms. And the slightly more sane fans will complain about how they don't really like the show/ship for what is really is but because it can be a vehicle for their preferred type of thing. I think CoD gets it a lot because it's a well-known franchise and there isn't really a lot of lore that's technically important. The campaigns are typical action movie stuff and most of the people play it for multiplayer and don't care for story at all. Anything popular with a low barrier to entry is gonna get this treatment.a lot of fangirls get into a fandom soley for shipping potential.
Fandom drama is its own special brand of crazy that is so fun to sideline.
