There was a time that was true. Some time ago they had a reputation for being a sort of modern-day Kerouac hangout. Really smart people used to frequent, and there was some great work done there. Good stuff.
Over time, they attracted the ADFs of the world. The bottom feeders, and the people who saw an easy mark. Tragic, really. Mind, the places were fucking never safe to begin with, and never should have had so many people in one place.

Does anyone more intrepid than myself think Ion might warrant a thread? On probation for receiving stolen property, Ghost Ship utilities periodically shut off for non-payment, e-begged, had his 3 kids (that lived @ GS) taken by CPS, was warned by friends/associates about dangerous state of GS... this just from a few articles related to the fire.
I've been to my share of underground warehouse parties, possibly in more dangerous locations than the GS, though judging by the photos I don't recall any place that would strike me as such. From the pics the place looks pretty awesome, but obviously rife with hazards. Common sense says that if you're going to fill a warehouse with kindling, and plug in unknown quantities of lights and sound equipment, you should get your circuits checked and maybe a few fire extinguishers.
Edit: reading a few more GS articles and shit like this is just... I dunno...

OK, going full nerd here, but the Rebel Alliance was founded in part because of the Empire's treatment of aliens as second class citizens. Admiral Akbar himself was a slave to Grand Moff Tarkin, which is part of the reason the Mon Calamari came into the Alliance in such huge numbers. The whole point of the Alliance and the New Republic the followed it was equality for all member species, something a proud SJW shit bag like Wu should be expounding on.
Instead of this, Wu makes a sweeping statement meant to sound deep and sympathetic to the Rebel cause and compare it to real life conflicts. What she actually does is further expose the fact that she is only a fan of the franchise to be quirky and nerdy and fit in with the culture she so desperately wants to be part of, and proves that she has zero interest in the well being or treatment of the minorities that she claims to be a champion of.
