Just looked at it - 20.2k subscribers and her most popular video by far is her interview with the LibsofTikTok chick (263k views). Most of her videos seem to stall below 5k. This is not exactly what I would call a great launching pad for an independent "magazine" that costs $70 a year in this economy.

What an incredible fuck up by this woman who had a cozy job at WaPo.

Problem for these fuckin people is that overt leftist edgetard schtick was made fashionable in the traditional lib/centre institutions and bases of power within politics and media and tech back in the early 00s for various reasons, and this opened the door for every soulless shitbag reptilian to use extreme sounding leftist rhetoric and aesthetics as a prop and a shield for their soulless shitbag reptilian behaviour (i.e. financial grifting, bullying their way into unearned promotions and positions, silencing and censoring personal enemies, doing straight up fetishist shit with impunity) which gave each of these verminous assholes an active stake in keeping this shit going indefinitely no matter how badly it screwed "their team" over, and due to how the door was also opened for autists and schizos in the leftist sphere to dictate rhetoric and pretend ideology to libs/centrists this also meant that it was utterly verboten to be seen pushing back or openly critiquing even the most inane and unpopular fucking bullshit flying around, thus further empowering the absolute worst people in this sphere due to how they could say absolutely fucking anything they liked without consequence so long as they virtue signalled with the right bandwagon causes.

However this shit seems to have decidedly hit its peak in the last year or two, as governments and institutions and corporations seem to slowly be realising how badly being seen pushing this shit is screwing them over not just in the long or medium term but the immediate short term, leading to a lot of the more obnoxious of this shit being quietly shitcanned or reworked not to be such overt cancer for their image, but for the "little people" like Taylor there is absolutely no option to backpedal or go against the screaming retard party line because of how doing so would have her instantly condemned en masse and excommunicated from the sinking ship, and her prior bullshit had alienated anyone closer to the centre which means she cant just tank the excommunication and move on. I suspect her plan was to try and pander to the TikTok retards enough to make her unfirable, but to do this she had to double down on edgetard leftist schtick which leads us to exactly what you described happening.

First of all, "User Mag" is the worst name. I can't tell if it's harm reduction for junkies or if it's tales of friends who come out of the woodwork once a year when they need help moving and then ghost you the rest of the time.

Second of all, is she trying to create some low-rent Blocked and Reported? Did she engineer the hurricane to get Katie offline so she can have Jesse all to herself? HOW DEEP DOES THE RABBIT HOLE GO???

I wonder how many fans she really has who'll be willing to pay for her new Substack. I know there's a lot of people willing to stick up for her, but that's mostly tribal bullshit on X.

She has a podcast called "Power User with Taylor Lorenz" that, after 8 months, has a score of 3.7/5 on Apple Podcasts with a whopping 121 votes, so that doesn't seem like it's very popular at all.

Let’s be real here, this shitty Substack is just a placeholder until she gets hired elsewhere. I think the only newspapers of record she hasn’t been kicked out of are the Chicago Tribune and the Los Angeles Times. I predict she will land somewhere in a matter of months. When you’re at Taylor’s level, you get a lot of second chances that most people would kill for.
