Paying careful attention to what their say, mannerisms, phrasing grammar and repeated words.
I have been on the internet well over two decades now, so I know where to look and reverse search engines, not just Google, Yandex searches Russia-Sinno web and other side of Internet in terms of images.
Problem with FA and E621 is that you have to make throw away to look for the images that might pop up either in Google or Yandex.
Use your account to look at images, look at accounts which favorited them, comment and forum posts. Luckily for kiwis wolfmanfur and other spergs use same username everywhere. For others they need little work and Time.
For example Zrcalo/Clauratta hates me with burning passion after I outed her every single sock account. She slipped up every single fucking time.

It's very easy to identify (or confirm the non-identity of) someone by their typing patterns online, if you know what markers to look for.

Not to brag, but I've identified would-be gayops several times because the posts claiming to be made in so-and-so's name don't match their typing cadence and/or 'tells' in their typing in the slightest.

Partially, people have unique/typical patterns of writing. That's how they caught Uncle Ted/Unabomber it's exhausting work and reference materiel is needed, more you have the better. Thanks to introduction of ChatGPT which can compare lengthy posts then compare the grammar and wording for you, that's how plagiarism is caught these days. In olden days high profile people could plagiarize their doctorate thesis and get away with it not anymore. Future tech dystopia hell is lovely sometimes.

I'm guessing that you start with the individual's favourite threads and subjects, with a particular focus on their slapfights, and then investigate the related communities that come up from there.

it's like handwriting analysis. you don't magically get more information on someone based on how they type, but if you have a suspicion that someone is another person, and those two accounts share some tic or specific way of phrasing things, it makes it easier to correlate the two.

example: if someone uses square brackets in place of parenthesis, and the account you suspect of being them also does that, you may have a match, and you can know to dig deeper.
