It's absolutely fucking hilarious how this thread is so desperate for any sliver of hope that they're clinging onto the fucking vice presidential debate for copium fuel after Trump bombed the actual Presidential debate between the top of the ticket, then tucked tail and refused to do another.

The most memorable thing about the 2020 debate was a fly landing on Pence's head. Trump lost that election. Vance crying about being checked on his bullshit is totally going to secure Trump the win this time!

There were so many opportunities for Trumpian style rebuttals that Vance deliberately did not pursue. When Walz talked about how he benefitted from the GI bill, Vance didn't attack him for stolen valor. When Walz tried to fearmonger over the prospect of Trump prosecuting his political enemies, Vance didn't bring up Jack Smith, Fani Willis, or Juan Merchan. There was no mention of tampons in boys' rooms or bottom surgeries for illegal alien detainees. No Haitian haute cuisine. Absent were bombastic lines like "because you'd be in jail" or "excuse me, I'm speaking."

Instead, Vance scored a decisive victory by relying solely on scholarship and the appeal of the Trump platform. I'd like to say that such a masterful performance would convince fencesitters - those that like the policies but hate the man - to turn out for Trump in November, but as others have noted, the only people bothering to tune in to a VP debate probably have already picked their horse long ago.

Some things to keep in mind. The current trajectory is Harris losing support week after week, Trump already has a lead and its widening now with only one month to make a massive shakeup. Additionally, a lot of people will hear the cliffnotes version of the debate through word of mouth, a cliffnotes version which is pretty damn one sided. Finally, this was the last real chance for them to gain any fuel against Vance and Trump.

The is an example of the Democrats being over emotional and not properly grasping context within speech; They cannot disect the unpleasantness out of a paragraph in order to reach the positive or root meaning. Many libnuts will ignore a fact presented in a sentence, and instead of asking a question, they make gross assumptions, attachments to the conversation, and generalizations, then shut down dialogue with accusations of bigotry.

For example, "Why do you want to seperate children from their families through deportation?" Or making retarded statements like "Being undocumented isn't a crime, I won't stand for this xenophobia."

Ignoring socioeconomic problems is like letting a wound fester. We have to talk about tough stuff or it gets worse.

Everything has to be perfectly presented or changed to their terms for them to reach a consensus, for some reason. There is no acceptance of bare minimum, humane and reasonable deportation. There must be strings attached, new buerocratic programs involved, new safe space words, and mean words are not allowed to be used when talking about illegal immigration.

Everything with today's Democrats has to be perfectly tidy and disagreements must be behind closed doors, not for anyone else to see.

Walz cannot maintain "military bearing" for some reason, which I find odd as a veteran myself.

Sure, he's retired from the Army National Guard now, but you're supposed to hold your composure and maintain a strong image in politics. He is extremely careless and not methodical. I find Walz to be constantly emotionally charged in his word choice, tone, and body language. It comes across as an insecure instability to me.

There's nothing wrong with being a little animated sometimes, but there's a limit to it. You don't go full throttle for so long without burning out or slipping, if that makes sense?

I look forward to Walz flailing his arms, turning red, and yelling stuttering falsehoods while Vance looks to the camera like "get a load of this guy" with a subtle smirk.

He really, really wanted Vance to attack him on some of his obvious weaknesses. Like his military service, or going to China. They repeatedly dangled those in front of Vance as pretty obvious bait. He probably had some real zingers prepared if Vance did so -- but Vance never did.

So I was correct on Vance fucking Walz, though even I was a little impressed by how he did it. I’d expected it to primarily be focusing on the fact that everything about Walz is about as flimsy as fucking wet paper towels… and I think that’s what Waltz was preparing for too. I THINK at least, because it isn’t like Waltz even really started out great or even seemed to be trying some sort of wounded gazelle gambit, he just seemed to be dogshit the whole way through, getting worse and worse and Vance focused on policy shit, which is bad for a ‘vibes’ campaign.
