The Elder Scrolls

Sup niggers. Skyrim in the Elder Scrolls game I've played the least of, well disregarding Arena and the weird spinoffs but you get what I mean. I have a grand total of just 1.7 hours playtime. As such I have no idea where to start with modding. I usually try to make my first playthrough as vanilla as possible but I'll make a tiny exception for Skyrim so here's some mod recommendations I'd appreciate: bugfix/stability mods, QoL and UI mods and most importantly mods that make the game more like the previous ones - adding actual RPG stats, better dungeons (I think I saw Skyrim literally only has dungeons as a straight line lmao) and things like that. I have Special Edition if that means anything.

Looking through the thread's recent posts might help get you started. Heavily modded and lightly modded are strangely not as far apart from each other than people think so it's probably not that far fetched for someone's first time to have a big mod list. No matter how hard you mod, it's still Skyrim, but it's better. There's a site I found recently called Modding Skyrim that looks like a good place to start (such as the beginner guide), if nothing else it has a glossary for terms you'll here floating around but not understand at first. A few rules of thumb I have:
-Always use Mod Organizer 2, no I don't care what good things people have to say about Vortex, it is inferior (which is ironic since the guy who made MO2 made Vortex)
-"Essentials" are entirely based on what you want and requirements for the mods you want
-Every mod you install, every change you make, launch the game and make sure it's running
-Read every mod's description and check what it might be incompatible with. No, I don't care if the description is long, fucking read it
-Get ready to spend God knows how long fixing issues, the price we all pay, unless you use Wabbajack or something
>I think I saw Skyrim literally only has dungeons as a straight line lmao

Lol. There's mods that make them better such as Dungeons - Revisited. TheDreamwraith and SlimeSire both have dungeons that are miles ahead of vanilla Skyrim. I know you said you just want stuff like bug fixes and other minor things but fuck me Skyrim is so lacking that a full overhaul of every system is needed to get it to remotely feel like the older games. We have some long standing guides on Skyrim over at TESG (shillshillshillshillshillshillshillshill) but they may be outdated, but hey it'll probably help you as well. If you just want to be told what mods to get which, yeah I get it, you might want to just try out Wabbajack (much as I recommend building your own, but time is the most valuable currancy). Some lists use AE and modders are bootlickers who can't stand the idea of people pirating or sticking with SE instead of buying the overpriced AE upgrade but I believe some good ones are still SE compatible, at the very least they don't require the AE garbage but just the most recent update. I'll probably make a small list of mods that you might want to make Skyrim a bit more like an actual RPG.

The weapon packs from the verified creations in Skyrim look fucking awful and out of place. Were the remaining staff members of Bethesda's quality control team for picking and choosing modders to make content for their game fired or something? At least the Creation Club shit looked alright.
i always get more bothered with non-lore friendly mods then I should, they just aren't for me personally, like even if you brought a LOTR-looking Sword into Skyrim it wouldnt work because its a completely different aesthetic from TES even though they are both fantasy

What even is Legacy of the Dragonborn? I keep being told it's the best mod that's ever been made and yet it just looks like nothing more than a player home mod with a few new questlines. Is it really anything special and if so can I install it mid-playthrough?

There's a difference between quality non-lore friendly weapons, and whatever this unity asset flip shit is.

This is a mod, verified by Bethesda themselves, being sold on the creation club store for $5 by the way.

LotD is great if you're a loot goblin and a lore beard because it gives you a reason to collect everything in the game. The player home is probably the best in the game, modded and vanilla, because all the crafting stations are in one room and you can customize it easily. The quests are pretty great if you've played Oblivion but if you're a Skybaby then you'll just be confused. Don't install it mid-playthrough, it will break everything and you'll need patches if you use any city replacers that touch Solitude. You also get a cool airship/player home that's pretty handy when you go to Solsthiem. There isn't anything woke in the mod so it's better than most mods these days.

I prefer making my own modlist for every game so I'm averse to using Wabbajack.
Good, it's better in the end. You learn more, practice your patience and problem solving ability, and you have more control of your own experience. It's a win on every aspect except time.

I get ya, I have a high tolerance for that stuff but in the end it's still going to bother me slightly. I don't mind it if it's good enough to ignore but I tend to shelve mods after a while if they're a bit too non-lore friendly without it being high quality. Vicn's mods for example.

Yeah basically just a glorified player home. It's adds thousands of artifacts both old and new (most are bloat to be honest) to collect and fill the museum with, you can also make replicas of special items (just the equipables iirc) so you can either keep the real item for yourself or if its a quest item you can keep the replicas. Overall it's really just "want more shit to do after you beat the main quests? Here you go." The guild is an interesting idea on paper but it requires you to do some mediocre quests (which suck even more on repeat playthroughs, someone made an addon for Arthmoor's Alternate Start mod that skips all that shit), excavations are usually dull, the new dungeons are dull, and iirc it has these segments where you're forced to wait for an overly long time, among other silly things such as having to go all the way back to Solitude to give/place the items in person instead of sending a caravan or courier or something. You can eventually send it back without having to go back but it takes playing through a lot of the mod to unlock the ability to just send it there when you're near an inn or player home (the addon Curator's Companion is often seen as essential and to not use LOTD without it).

For some reason they thought placing an articact in an easily identifiable crate in front of a well travelled inn or in front of your homes is a good idea and totally won't result in stolen items, even in seedy places like Riften or middle of nowheres like Nightgale Inn. And God help you if you decide to donate 100+ artifacts at a time, especially on script heavy saves. Despite this I like the mod, but I don't play it without certain addons and personal patches to unfuck the fuckery in some places. It's also a mod that you have to add when you're starting a new save and never take any compatible mod or God forbid the actual mod itself out mid-save. You add it, play it through, and if you don't want it anymore say goodbye to that save.

Skip it for now, if you feel like doing a collectathon and feel like adding some arguably sick new items (it even remodels and overhauls some existing items that didn't have a unique model or was "just straight ass 🔥🔥🔥" as the kids say) or would like to see old unique items from older games return then go ahead when you're done with your current save. Again, look at the addons and be prepare to either commit or delete the new game and the mod. I'd still recommend it over CC crap. Mods dedicated to an specific item>LOTD's version of said item>CC version of said item.

The fuck is this? This is the most generic shit...looks straight from another game.

I for one am lookin forward to when TES6 drops, normies eat it up as usual, and hardcores say it's the worst game in the series that isn't even worth playing with mods while having 1k+ hours. All while everyone agrees that (your favorite game) was the peak of the series while almost never going back to it until the next wave of newfags discover the older games again and an influx of "DAE MORROWIND/OBLIVION/SKYRIM BETTER" kicks off a new generation and the cycle continues.

I haven't looked at Skyrim CC in a while, but there seems to be virtually no oversight with the Starfield stuff. People just wholesale asset flipping and releasing broken garbage as paid content.

From what I remember, the mod is essentially just for autistic faggots that have the insatiable need to collect and display *everything*.

I always got the impression it's for Funko fags

I never stopped playing the older games but I'll still be associated with those fake Morrowboomers and Daggerfags who only just got into the games (assuming they even will play them or will just say they played them) but pretend they've been around for years to feel superior/not left out. Just like when the Fallout show came out...

Nah, more for loot goblins, most probably use the museum as a better reason to hoard shit.

Okay everybody! Which game in The Elder Scrolls do you think has the most SOUL and CHARM in its setting?

You may not choose Arena, because that's literally the entirety of Tamriel.

You can't choose Online's setting, either, for the same reason.

I'm a month late and someone probably mentioned this already, but I'm sure some of you folks know All-In-All and this THLMR series.

Basically he just up and quit right before the finale. He doesn't like Bethesda, the industry they're apart of, the fans (probably just worded weirdly), and just said "fuck that I'm making my own shit." It was no secret that he didn't really care for Elder Scrolls, or at least that's what he said despite how contradictory that statement is. I have...mixed feeling. On one hand, him branching out into other work (which he was already doing mind you) is great and an artist shouldn't be restricted to one idea. On the other hand, for someone who so deeply invested himself, his time, and his work into the wilder aspects of Elder Scrolls, I highly doubt he "didn't care" about it. With my direct interactions with him, he really did seem like a fan dating from all the way to Daggerfall. Furthermore, while he is under no obligation to continue THLMR, he got his audience from Elder Scrolls and to just stop right before the finale seems like a dick move to the people who put him on the map to begin with.

His work before Elder Scrolls wasn't exactly...popular, they still aren't either. He made his first Elder Scrolls video, a shitpost no less, and it blew his view count from all his previous videos out of the water (pun intended). Then he made another which also did very well, then he did a something unrelated to Elder Scrolls and...yeah barely over 1k. Eventually he just stuck with Elder Scrolls related content, and he did it fucking well. Even if he was tired with it, he could at least finished his last hurrah, the most popular work on his channel that made him really stand out, but nope. He didn't announce it anywhere special, not in his community tab, not on any of his social media platforms, hell even on his patreon he straight up doesn't specify that the series is on indefinite hiatus, just a single line with a link in his description of his lank THLMR video, which is why despite the top linked video being basically the end of THLMR it has only 370+ views at the time of writing this, and I'm pretty sure the majority of his fans are waiting for the last episode not realizing he stopped. He's a great artist but it still feels like such a dick move.

The way its worded kind of sounds like maybe Bethesda threatened him and it pissed him off. Or he just hated Starfield that much. Or it could just be English not being his first language. Either way that's disappointing because his animations were honestly the best Elder Scrolls media since Morrowind for me.

I believe 2/3 it's. He does not like the direction Elder Scrolls went which is why his work is similar in tone to the insanity that was Kirkbride's work, he doesn't like Bethesda at all iirc but I doubt Starfield would be a cause since he really just "cared" about Elder Scrolls (again cared in quotations because he has stated that he just uses ES as a medium for his work but I'm pretty sure he only said that so when he moves on people won't hound him for more ES, I highly doubt he doesn't care about ES to put so much work into fan work). And also no English is not his first language but he speaks it well enough from what I can tell from his Fudgemuppet podcast appearance, he types it perfectly fine too. Pretty sure he's Russian, he also seems to understand Japanese to a degree without being a weeb. I doubt Bethesda threatened him off since he never got any trouble from them.
I've seen his work but never followed the guy.

What is his problem? His wording strikes me as kind of faggy tbqh
He's an artist, it's like how fags tend to speak with a lisp and with over exaggerated hand motions. He's also just blunt from what I've seen, he'll tell you stuff directly.
