Sweet Baby Inc. and the Steam Curator Group Conspiracy - The company that is responsible for the diarrheic video game writing.

I'm sorry to tell you this, but Elder Scrolls 6 is probably going to be set in Hammerfell. Too much DEI money going around.

We will need mods.
It's already been announced for Hammerfell, more or less.

TES 6 doesn't need any enshittification to please the woke crowd. The entire plot of the series for the past several decades has been about elf nazis, and it's a well established plot point that Redguards absolutely bodied them when they tried to invade just like the Argonians counter-invaded Oblivion. It's already a Wakanda-tier power fantasy.

Mind you, it'll still be a Bethesda game, but still. At least Redguards are badass.

I pronounce Redguard with a hard R.

No, in fact it sold pretty poorly due to it releasing the same week as the original Red dead redemption.
Ahem, as well as the fact it was fucked around with its release. Xbox exclusive, Vista exclusive, Direct X fuckery. Delays delays delays.

Its a surprise it did as well as it did considering it was a bit of a development hell. Maybe "dev hell" Lite version.

There's more slop coming from Suicide Squad. Archive

Meet Lawless, Deadshot's daughter. Her backstory is pure "eat the rich" cringe. She is a ethical thief live-streamer (seriously) who does "aggressive redistribution" from "the out of touch elites of Gotham" and her talents are called "The Influencer" and "Revolutionary". I am not kidding.

The Rocksteady twitter account is not even promoting it.

The final cutscene for this DLC is exactly why folks hate Sweet Baby. It's like a high schooler wrote this script for the cutscene, one that didn't even watch the first hour of the game or is familiarized with the Suicide Squad.

Lawless: "Your bodily autonomy! I mean, what is even keeping you here?"

King Shark: "Largely, fear of our boss."

Did they forget that the entire Suicide Squad had bombs in their head, so that if they go off the playable map, their heads explode? Like with what happened at Corto Maltese? Amanda is in the same room with them.

This character and this cutscene is just cancer.

God I love that the Suicide Squad devs are contractually obligated to make like five DLC for the couple hundred people actually playing that game
Same for Total War: Pharoah.
They were obligated to make several expansion packs for the low hundreds of seasonpass purchasers, so they ended up refunding them, massively cutting the price and spending a year revamping it into a vastly improved game with three times the content.

It was a loss, but they still have their reputation and a game actually worth buying.

The same "suicide squad" that literally blackmailed her father?

It's not that complex.

You see this because AAA gaming is so scaled up that they do not have a mechanism for identifying or retaining actual talent or real creatives. It's why so many creatives get to stay in GameDev way past their expiration date (aka Richard Gariott, Romero, Randy Pitchford, the FFXIV 1.0 team, Yoshinori Ono, Ion H over at Blizzard) and why it's such a volatile position to be in. Over the last 20 years - a marked shift has happened in the video game space, where "real creatives" opt to work for your huge corporations and instead set out for themselves.

...

TL;DR - the entire AAA design process was fucked up beyond any fixing once they moved to a large scale. They were fucked before DEI ever inserted themselves into corporate culture and they're going to be fucked once DEI gets pushed out.
While I think you're correct, another way to look at this would be that the big name AAA guys all have resumes and track records that are no longer attainable. Garriott is a good example: He started small, then moved onto making truly groundbreaking things as a part of Origin, even taking big risks with switching development focus to PC. There's no way in hell he would get a cool $200 mil today to match what big studios output. The stakes are just too high.

It's much more then resume's and track records - because indie has some powerful track records. Scott Cawthon made a franchise that had ~7 or ~8 entries that all sold extremely well, which is something that would put him near the top of the pile.

It's more an issue of money and control. If someone like Garriott were starting today - he could try and grind it out in some dogshit faceless company for ~10 years before he can make his own pitch to have them make his game - which if it succeeds the company keeps the money, the IP, the marketing rights, and the money; but if it fails he takes the blame and gets tossed out on his ass. He could instead just make it himself and reap the rewards of success for himself instead of sharing it with shareholders.

$200 mil isn't needed to compete with AAA (Concord sure didn't look like a $200 mil product) but even Star Citizen has crowdfunded well over 600 million. But for a few million? Crowdfunding is out there if you're willing to put in some work. Shenmue got $6 mil, Bloodstained $5 mil, and a whole slew of games that got funded as well.

A positive reputation is worth more than its weight in platinum. It was a good investment.

I have no fucking idea how Debra Wilson is cast on so many games. Was she cast first at Wolfen(((shtein))): The New Colossus? And the wokies "loved" her there?
She's close friends with Phil LaMarr - one of the most prolific voice actors of all time (Samurai Jack from Samurai Jack, John Stewart/Green Lantern from Animated Justice League, Hermes from Futurama, Vamp from MGS2/4, and roughly ~500 other credits across very popular franchises). He's probably more prolific than John DiMaggio (Bender, Wakka, etc) and has worked virtually every high level studio as a high level talent across like ~40 years.

Him going "I've got a friend you can use..." is insanely powerful. The only VA that I would say could open more doors would be like a Mark Hamill and it's not really fair to call Hamill a "VA" (when he's starred in huge movies).

On top of that - her MadTV Costar Alex Borstein is huge in that world as well. Not as prolific as Phil - but just as many contacts.

Additionally, she rarely refuses roles, will work for scale even if it'll screw her and she's a trained actress. Even if not for her connections, she'd probably still be everywhere just because she's cheap talent.

It really is a matter of her having connections. After MadTV, she was on the verge of being homeless and was divorcing her husband.

Hell, since we’re bringing up Phil LaMarr, she voiced Crying Wolf in MGS4 as one of her first voice acting gigs. Why can’t her characters look more like that instead of….her?

As a side note, Crying Wolf’s model, Mieko Rye, has been battling and recovering from breast cancer; she had a double mastectomy a while ago.

It is a Bethesda game. Chances are all the characters will share a physical resemblance to Debra Wilson, whether it was their intent or not. Just look at Starfield.
"The Elder Scrolls has always been woke! Just look at The Elder Scrolls Adventures: Redguard and..."

Still, he's a guy you bring in specifically because he's highly regarded for his VA work and not just because he's a "big star."

Debra is the industry safe pick. Ticks all the DEI boxes, but is not going to war with fans on twitter. So people tolerate her in so many games.
Unless i missed it, she does not do smug condescending political posts. She puts out a solid performance for the job gets her pay check and goes on to the next role.
She may support left causes, but i have never seen her spaz out at people about it. In fact it is the mostly right wing that spazs out at her being in everything.
To me she is inoffensively bland, almost background noise in games.

Of course, but the DEI HR system provided a perfect ideological framework to put an ethical justification on just how fucking useless the big studio system is, and even shove the same brainslugs down into the nascent AA developers who can ill afford to run their companies in such a blatantly anti-merit way. This in turn helps to crush small studios that could potentially compete with the big companies, thus poisoning the competition from within. Its similiar to how investors and corpos lobby governments to increase taxation; their bluechips can weather the flood waters, their small competitors can't.

Most ideology exists for the sake of post-hoc rationalising the actions of those in power, or numbing the wounds on the status quo. IdPol serves that purpose perfectly.
