Im a straight edge kid, the world of crackheads scamming retail through barcode scrambling, return fraud ect. to fund there drug habits is completely alien to me.

And it's not easy for me to google search or ask chat gpt to learn about the best techniques.

I dont want to put these things into real world use. And Im not a glowie looking to set anybody up. Im writing a screenplay and i want to know the coolest most realistic way to steal from walmart to fuel a characters drug habit.

Self serve machines
Pretty much this, get a heap of shit pretend to scan some of it and walk out with the goods.

Shoplifting.
Couple of good strategies with this one. Hiding it under the kids in a pram is a classic crackhead manoevre. Otherwise shoving it down the pants and underwear is always a classic move.

barcode scrambling, return fraud ect.
Barcode scrambling sounds a bit sophisticated for your average crackhead however you see lots of people peel the adhesive barcodes used for reducing damaged items and sticking them on another item. Another is peeling a clearence sticker off something and stick it on a dress and argue it should be that price.

Fraud may be as simple as coming back with the stolen shit and try to return it by saying you got no receipt and spending the store credit you get.

Maybe I should clarify the character doing the fraud is the literal embodiment of fentanyl a kind of anton Chigurh from No Country for Old Men, scorched earth type character and I really want to create a scene reminiscent to when Chigurgh walks into the general calmly after blowing up a car to steal the health supplies he needed to treat his gun shot wound.

Im not sure I can relate to you a retail story as exciting as a car bombing theft.

Edit: as a hit and run heist the only thing I can remember is these guys whod stack shopping carts full of shit next to a firedoor that went to a loading area outside. Trigger the door alarm and dump the shit into the getaway car and gtfo

steal prepaid gift cards, take them to the bathroom, get as much info as you can off of them, put them back on the shelves and keep track of them, wait for some to get purchased and loaded with money

- youtube video where cops are arresting some chinese guy doing this

where stocks prepaid (preloaded) cards nowadays? Even smaller chains I find now have the activating machines. I've probably not seen one for sale for 10+y

They are still pretty much the norm here.
Where is here? Genuinely interested. I'm the UK and haven't all the US retailers pulled them with the huge rise in scam calls? You do mean preloaded ones that have the money already on there, and not a prepaid card which is basically a debit card you top up? Because they come empty by default too if maybe you misunderstood what they meant.

I realize I may have been retarded because we do in australia have like the $20 preset amounts but they arent actually active till after you pay for em

They dont top up its just use until you get as close to zero as you can and dump it

Yeah that's what I mean lol, that scam is mostly dead. When it's not phone scams, it's usually credit card fraud they use to get those, then try and offload them before they get cancelled.

What do you expect? Crackheads just straight up steal. And they don't care, because nobody is going to do shit.

There are many clever ways to steal, but this goes above and beyond of what you seem to be after.

Maybe you're just so straight edge you don't understand how huge of a greyline there is between white and black.

The actual best technique to commit fraud is to have an insider and pose as someone else. Easiest theft in your life. And it's not small time.

Im a straight edge kid,
your screenplay no doubt sucks.

the coolest most realistic way to steal from walmart to fuel a characters drug habit.
which drug?
how much is the habit?
age?
gender?
orientation?

way too much effort stealing & fencing shit for your average drug fucked junkie that's why they invented rockhoes & rent boys.

Years ago one guy of a forum would boast about ordering high value goods from Amazon and just saying they weren’t delivered as nothing was really tracked back then. I told him he was an utter retard for sharing this as half the forum hated him and he was admitting to a crime that could easily be a few years in prison that could easily be traced to him.

I have thought about it when a delivery guy leaves something in a weird place but it’s really not worth the hastle of getting caught.
