After the latest pictures, I'm certain of a few things.
He does not have vitiligo, he has severe inflammation in his facial skin, weather this is caused by a medical condition or weather he's rubbing some nasty product on his face and picking at it like a little retard remains to be seen
personally, I think he has something akin to dermatitis based on the redness and puffiness.

Depending on the damage, storage recovery services may indeed cost thousands of dollars. It's not a simple operation to recover data from a fucked up hard drive. You also need special equipment to do it, and those tools are not cheap. I'd say it's an accurate ballpark, but it's hard to say without knowing the damage. I've seen recovery prices range from $100 to $2000 dollars online, you usually have to ask the companies for a quote. He says "almost 4 figures" to make it sound like it cost more than it actually did.

Here’s an archive of the Reddit thread. A few other accounts confirmed it was him, but I have no idea who they are or if they are locals. It doesn’t seem to be a mask in these photos and his mouth is pretty fucked looking, but he has made posts in the past alluding to the fact that masking is on his mind. So it’s possible he’s at least thought about it.

After seeing how red it is, I wondered if it could be psoriasis (although the redness and peeling skin appears in smaller patches on this pic, it's possible it could be a severe case of it)

fwiw, a guy in my wider friend group in college had vitiligo — and it presented as white AND red patches on his hands and arms. This guy was white. Maybe that’s what’s going on here as well, considering David has a white mother?
