I think there's a couple in here with legitimate bipolar, but the vast majority of this thread is clear borderline or narcissistic personality disorder, though a bunch of them have gotten bipolar 2 or nos slapped in the chart somewhere. Bipolar 1 disorder is pretty unmistakable and. very distinct from personality disorders - the classic presentation is intermittent depression starting in the late teens, and then sometime between 18 and 25 having a weeks or months long manic episode where they get an hour or two of sleep per night for a month or more, have euphoria/grandiose delusions, and generally have the appearance and behavior of someone on copious amounts of stimulants, despite not being on any. Think Kanye West. They blow up their lives and generally suck to be around, but they're more likely to tell you that they are the second coming of Christ than they are to try to get you to pity them.

Most of the cows here have attention seeking, interpersonal drama, and self harm that's classically Borderline Personality Disorder. It's common for borderlines to self diagnose or get bipolar diagnoses from NPs, or some of them even swing a schizoaffective label for self reported "hallucinations," but only a few of the girls in this thread have shown an actual manic episode as opposed to at most BPD + adderall.
Bipolar meds treat clear Bipolar 1 quite well if the patient takes em, but they mostly just make borderlines fat and sleepy. Similarly, psychiatric wards can be helpful for people going through a short term crisis or an actual severe depressive/manic episode, but borderlines tend to get addicted to the attention/institutionalized environment and best practice these days is to not admit them to the psych ward if possible. For the results of throwing pills and grippy socks at a borderline, look no further than Allyson from a few pages back. Without knowing more, "tethered spinal cord" is already kinda suspect. Like many munchie things it definitely is a real thing that does cripple people out there akin to spina bifida, but it is also something you can get diagnosed by a quack and get unneeded surgeries for, because it has one of those "very hard to detect on normal tests/dubious vague symptoms" varients, occult tethered cord. From my understanding if you just repeatedly go to the right doctor and say you have back pain, vague numbness or weakness issues, piss yourself, and can't walk right, you can get diagnosed with an occult tethered cord, and from there if you repeatedly fail every conservative treatment (because you are actually crazy and have psychosomatic symptoms or are actively malingering), you can eventually end up in the hands of one of those surgeons that say their magic spine surgery will fix you.

Just on a knee-jerk level I find it hard to think it would be worth the medical system mercy-killing a person over, however I think people like this do often munch themselves into painful, lifelong complications.
