A major factor in his Mustang purchase was availability, the dealer's network had one in stock so he could get one NOW NOW NOW instead of being placed in the manufacturing queue. He outright said he considered some other stuff first but the Mustang won out just because he could drive it within days instead of having to wait weeks to months for it.
With enough extra money paid and a willingness to compromise on certain features, the sort of issues he is talking about can be avoided. He was dumb, lazy and has no taste in such things. Besides which he "wanted it now" in the middle of winter when he couldn't really drive a car like that anyway. At the very least, money should not have been an excuse.
As far as his tickets go, he lives in a rural area where typically its not difficult to know where the police usually are and how to avoid them. I think he even got busted in the same place twice. He also has tickets for just plain dumb things like driving with expired registration and driving without insurance.
