The "Members" on Patreon is misleading. It's a change they made a year ago where they started lumping in non-paying followers of a creator with their paying supporters in the count on the home page.

Best pics I have of when the change happened, it broke Graphtreon for a bit last october.

It made it look like Choob got 3,000 extra patrons out of nowhere without any correlating happening. This spike is all gone from the graph today.

(He's been back on a steady downward trend for quite a while now. Any takers on what he will do to drum up support this time? The first spike in members is his Coming out, for the second he drummed up support with the NHS video.)

So Choob has 12,688 members, but under his about page you can see that he only has 6,564 paid members

Likewise for KJB there are 7,614 members, but only 5,562 paid members


Clicking on that "Join for free" button makes you one of the Total members, but not one of the Paid members.

Estimate of KJB-earnings​

We have a lot less to go on with KJB in regards to calculate earnings, there's some "Monthly Roll Of Honour" that all patrons above and including $13,50 show up in which I don't really have a clue as to what it could be. At the end of a KJB-episode there is however a readout of all the patrons who pay $20 or more. The readout goes on for ~2 minutes minus some talking in-between names but I'm having a hard time discerning what's a name or not. Assuming a rate of a little less than one name per second I'm guessing about 200 people give $20+, which I think is being generous but I don't have any reasonable estimate.


So with that as a baseline the earnings would be at minimum:

5362*7 = 37,534​

200*20 = 4000​

41,534​

Assume they're on the Patreon Pro plan where there's an 8% cut (KJB is too recent to have the legacy plan)

41,534*0.92 = 38,211​

Dividing that by three gives us:

$12,737 pre tax per person​

Without knowing what the "Roll Of Honour" is there's no point to estimating an upper bound. But if somebody figures that out we can go to town.

Interesting that all his patreon "reward" ideas are ways for people to become like him (how to start a youtube channel guide - which is everyone's ultimate goal obviously, a lookbook so you can copy his amazing style, a list so you can read the same books and become genius like him). I've got a strong suspicion he reads this thread. There's been several things he posted that have had... very coincidental timing, and I think he trusts Choobreon paypigs won't read KiwiFarms so he's getting ahead of the narrative. Said it before but Ollie has a strong work ethic and is more canny than the average lolcow when it comes to damage mitigation (like with his auto deleting tweets to reduce the risk of getting cancelled), it's just he can't contain himself and lacks the self awareness to avoid showing his true nature.

I'm definitely leaning towards him lying about it, either in a cynical way to milk his followers for sympathy/cash, or in a self-deluding way because he wants to believe that he's oppressed and not privileged. We don't have much info on the state of his finances beyond his earnings, but I strongly believe he's actually quite canny with his money. He just gives off that vibe. I'd be surprised if he hasn't made a few savvy investments here and there and bought property.

Possibly. I've noticed that the regular posters on this site tend to suspect that the subject of each thread here reads said thread. Probably many of them do (it's hard to resist taking an interest in these detailed discussions all about you and your life, even if it's all negative, and especially if you're a narcissist), but I think also there's an element of cognitive bias at work, because if you're studiously observing someone's personality, and you see that play out again and again, it can be easy to make the unconscious assumption that you're influencing these patterns of behaviour when in fact you're just making a reasoned prediction.

But yeah, in Olly's case it wouldn't surprise me. We know he's self-obsessed enough, and correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it a trait of narcissists that they masochistically seek out ways to weaken their fragile ego even as they attempt to compensate for it? Anyway, as far as I know, the only really evidence we've seen so far is an allusion in one of his tweets where he and Alice talk about going online to browse 'the bad place' (or something like that, I don't remember the exact phrasing). This thread is a good candidate for being that place.
