How many more hurricanes would there have to be before property in Florida essentially becomes uninsurable?
As bad as this is going to be it's important to remember that the last time a storm like this went up Tampas bootyhole was in 1921.

It's also important to note that much of the damage will be water, not wind. Which is an entirely different classification of insurance to what you would get in a comprehensive home owners policy.

That said, anyone who builds a mcmansion on a barrier island should be subject to the full effects of caveat emptor.

Florida's number 1 problem right now is lack of affordable insurance for new buyers. People are leaving the state because only the wealthy elite can tank the monthly premiums anymore.

Oh gee.. Another storm heading right for FL.....

The fuck are you thunk-provoking about here? Florida gets raped by Hurricanes more than any other state. If that confuses you or causes your tin foil hat to tingle, then I suggest you find a rope and go visit Equestria to get advice about this from magical ponies.

Any chance of it wiping out Clearwater and the Scientology HQ?
The world isn't that lucky.

It's ok, you can use the bigger pieces of debris for a stand.

Just bring your own folding chair and extra batteries for your megaphone and you'll be good.
I bet the fuckers at the Orange County Convention Center would still charge $20 per day for parking even if the god damn building is reduced to rubble and the event is moved to the fields behind it.

Non Florida Kiwis, remember: the telephone lines and power might be down for a while depending on the area. Florida men kiwis will sound off when we can, could be up to 5 days depending on if the Kiwi gets distracted helping out. You can start freaking out about us after a week offline. :semperfidelis:

Areas aren't usually out of power/service for more than 2-3 weeks, and people travel to areas with power in the meantime, so pray for those you like's safety and don't get anxious until a week from now if someone post here and isn't back. It happens.

They're "preparing to close" as of 2 hours ago but the fact they stayed open this long is telling lmao.
It's like the spice miners of Arrakis when they see worm sign. They don't airlift the men and equipment until the very last second.

Its great until you consider they're locked in cells and there could be tons of flooding.
Jail cell bars aren't water-tight :story:

They started doing that in my neck of the woods after the 2011 Joplin tornado. A lot of people died in that tornado because they didn't take the warnings seriously.
Also, the Joplin tornado went from "not exactly ideal" to "bringer of oblivion" in the blink of an eye. There was plenty of warning on the sirens (19 minutes, which is above average), but on that specific funnel it went from an EF0 at touchdown to an EF4 in less than 5 minutes. Which is INSANE.

The Joplin tornado itself wasn't underwarned, necessarily. It just got out of hand absurdly fast.

Alright so a basic thing to do In a hurricane is to close all doors inside to minimize the chance of the wind getting in and lifting roofs. Anything else besides blocking windows I can do? I have water and food and meds

Do you have a source of heat? It's going to be pretty rough if you get flooded in with no means of heating yourself, especially if you're getting exposed to the elements for a prolonged period of time.

If you have a gas supply then hard valve it at the street level. Same for your water supply. If your home becomes flooded then disconnect the power.

Tie down whatever you don't want to go out flying. Park your car where there aren't trees or poles that can fall on it if you don't have a garage. Fill up your tank, and if you have a generator, make sure you got plenty of fuel for it and dor the love of God, don't keep it indoors.

Freeze water so you have ice for food, drinks and medication. Cook your meat and eat it or it'll go bad.
