The company not sponsoring your visa is the giant red flag.

Some companies/countries will take anyone as long as they American. Not Japan tho, they are super competitive and there are no shortage of bodies looking to sign up for the grind. I always tell people to never start out with Japan as their first step to being an ESL teacher because you need to demonstrate some value or experience to get a job that isn't abusive trash.
