Hurricane Milton

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
This site is pretty good for tracking hurricanes
Why's it predicting that the eastern disturbance will move toward the Bahamas? I thought it was supposed to move east.

Quoting from the NHC's Forecast Discussion (emphasis mine);

We would like to emphasize that Milton's exact landfall location is
not possible to predict even at this time, particularly if the
hurricane wobbles during the day and into this evening. Even at
12-24 hours, NHC's track forecasts can be off by an average of 20-30
nm. Since storm surge forecasts are highly sensitive to the exact
track, this means that the realized storm surge heights across the
Tampa Bay region and south may vary widely, and there will likely be
a noticeable gradient of surge heights to the north of the landfall
location. However, the risk of devastating storm surge still exists
across much of the west-central and southwest coast of Florida given
the size of the storm and the uncertainties in exactly where
landfall will occur.

The NHC is basically telling people to not be surprised if Milton landfalls outside the cone.

It is moving east. That is the earlier track that shows it toward the Keys. Click on any part of the path and it will show the date and time of it's position.

I know there are live cams, but do we know of any storm chasers planning to livestream the whole thing?

There are companies that make these little waterproof orbs with chairs in them for that kind of thing and/or tsunamis.

The idea is they float safely around the flooded area and are easy to spot by rescue parties IIRC. They're also expensive and take up a bit of space though.
I'd rather die than float around in a gay little orb like that.

In Florida? The entire state is at or below sea level. Honestly any solid steel and concrete construction with a heavy roof, and someplace to go above the ground floor will work even for the worst of them.
????? Florida is above sea level. It's high point is 345 ft above sea level. There are small parts that are below sea level including the Everglades but the whole state aint below sea level lmao

This is sensationalism. If they had confidence issues they would simply widen the cone again.

The cone is not normally manually drawn - each forecast point has a set radius. The NHC itself is stating they have lower-than-normal confidence. I don't believe I am misinterpreting their words.

Don’t get complacent. These hurricanes, as they peter out crossing the Atlantic, bring torrential amounts of rain. The southern states of the US getting blown away can mean flash flooding in Europe a week or two later.
A 100%, but my point is more. That is easy enough to deal with compared to my house and the neighbor's house merging, and are now flying out to sea.

I'd rather jump off a building than float in these eyball lookin' chinesium grade dinguses, i'm pretty sure these are gonna leak and i'd end up drowning and ALSO being trapped while drowning alive in there. I'd rather not trust these

once you get to the north end of the Orlando sprawl the state starts to get surprisingly hilly
