Hey. Appalachian kiwi here. I'm angry and heartbroken beyond words. This post is going to be a disjointed mess, forewarned.
It's not hyperbole to say that Trump is making the situation worse. Thanks to the conspiracy theories that he, MTG, and Elon are spreading, people have been encouraged to "rise up" against FEMA. Retards with rifles are going to zones to play militia, misinformation is being spread like wildfire, and people can't get the help that they need. Not because FEMA money is being used for migrants, but because people are being encouraged not to seek help at all and distrust any help offered. (Thanks Loomer, you deplorable cunt)
On top of that, Elon had said that starlink is free for those affected. But when people go to sign up, he's charging them upwards of $400. Republicans voted against FEMA funds, only to demand what they rejected in the first place. People have resorted to pack animals to get around because there are no roads left. Whole mountains have been washed away, taking with them entire communities. What would take years to rebuild now will take even longer. Bodies were found hanging in tree limbs. Countless others are still missing. There's a recording circulating of a child screaming for Christ before being washed away. Trailers were brought in to store the dead. The flood waters are contaminated.
FEMA isn't after your lithium mines. Democrats can't control the weather. Bodies aren't being bulldozed to hide anything. People are calling us dumb rednecks because we didn't evacuate, but we've never had to deal with a hurricane inland like this. I've read comments by conservatives that democrats are happy that it happened to red states, but no one is happy. We find no joy where there is only death. No one is celebrating. My social media is nothing but people desperately posting pictures of missing family members. I was lucky enough that my family wasn't caught in the worst of it, but a lot of people can't say the same.
Relief efforts are being actively hampered by MAGA political games, and it's killing people--again. Say what you want about Kamala, but at least she wasn't posing for photo ops with a thumbs-up and a smile while standing in the rubble.
