It's absolutely not the best way to discuss anything. That's flat out just wrong. The sheer amount of derailing, coom posting and other bullshit makes actual discussion basically impossible.
As someone who is interested in film /tv/ is undoubtedly the best place to discuss it on the internet. The IMDB forums are dead, Letterboxd is filled with communist trannies and unfunny women, and Reddit is well Reddit. I'm someone who's more intrested in pretentious art-house/Criterion style movies and tv (not to say I don't like watching more mainstream movies and shows) and 4chan is the best place to discuss it. There's been so many times I've found out about amazing movies or shows just becuase of some random one off recomendation from /tv/. Hell, I first found out about Kingcobrajfs becuase the Gothic King Cobra documentary gets posted on /tv/ a lot. I think part it is a just have a preferance for the imageboard format because I generally think it leads to more OC being created. Maybe I'm just not aware, but I can't think of anything notable that has come from the various media boards on this site. I've been laughing my ass off at the various Joker 2 and Megalopolis shitposts from /tv/. I don't really know if this counts but I will occasionally just use the various 4chan archive sites to look at stuff i'm intrested in.
You use our Fishtank thread to follow the show when there are generals on /tv/ if it's the best way to follow it why do you come here?
I primarly use the Fishtank general because that is where all of fsihtank related news gets posted first and is were 90% of the shows OC comes from. I not really sure why I also use the thread here. I think it's probably just because the therads are extremely fast when the show is ungoing so the thread here is a bit more chill. That probably has more to do with me investing too much time in fishtank
The gaming board has plenty of traffic and is much higher quality then /v/.
Just for comparsion, the games board has had a total of 736k posts over it's entire existance. Meanwhile, /v/ and /vg/ get that many posts every half a week. I think people people here severly underesimate how much bigger 4chan is. Even if you want to make the argument that the quality of posts here is greater since 4chan posts are more dispossable the userbase is still far larger.
Also you find the non-lolcow boards on the farms insipid? Why? I've had zero issues with the non lolcow boards. The quality of discussion on them is quite good.
I went on the mulimedia media board and all I saw on the first couple of pages were mostly youtuber threads with a mix of threads for some new movies and some generals for shit like anime or Star Wars. The posts I saw were all pretty surface level to begin with. In general, most of the movie or tv show threads with multiple pages (not counting new releases) in the first couple of pages are for either popular shows, popular movie series, or general topics like horror movies. If I wanted to discuss some random older movie I liked like say Lawrence of Arabia or No Country For Old Men I would either post it in a general thread and hope that I get a reply or two or make a thread for it that will immediatley die. At least on /tv/ I can make a thread for a movie I like and it will probably get a decent amount of replies.
I went on the Joker 2 thread here since I mentioned I thought that /tv/ shiposting was really funny and look what I saw!
In regards to the game board, I checked a couple of threads and most of the discussion was pretty much the same as I can find on /v/ albeit much slower. Again though most of the threads in first couple of pages were for very popular games or franchises. I checked the Halo thread since I'm a big Halo fan and they recently announced that they were changing their studio name and moving to unreal. Guess what I happened to see again!
It's bizarre you are even trying to defend a site so gay and dead.
Feel like I should go into more detail then my last post with this. 90% of the threads on any major 4chan board catalog at any given time is a mixture of bait threads, generals and shitposting. You sift through shit to find the few threads you actually care about like an 1800s gold panner.
I should clarify that I don't disagree at all that there is a ton of garbage on 4chan. Most of the faster boards are filled with commer threads or off topic ragebait. /pol/ for example is completely unusable now because of how much garbage is there. I just think the ratio is more like 50% garbage 30% ok threads and 20% quality ones. I think a lot of it just simply comes down to my preferance for the imageboard format.
And the obvious "solution" is to force you to use your own IP connected to a residential Internet address connected directly to your name.
Ok, so what would be your solution to prevent easy ban evasion while allowing use of VPN's and TOR? Remember, this is an imageboard so you can't add registrations.
