Pretty much everywhere in the country, a guilty plea requires what is called an allocution of guilt, in which you, in open court, verbally confess to the facts that would result in a conviction. If you try to enter a guilty plea and refuse to do this, your guilty plea is refused and the case goes to trial.

A recent cow who did this was Baked Alaska, who ultimately actually did confess. He tried to enter a guilty plea and claimed he dindu nuffin and only did it because of coercion. The judge refused it until he actually went through with the allocution.
