Intense rainfall and floods that destroyed a lot cities in multiple countries? Finally forcing companies to conform to GDPR? Electricity and gas being expensive as hell?
Those may be some jarring issues that need addressing but they pale in comparison to the struggles of euro trans folx ✊

You missed this tweet where he says that he doesn't have the courage to get involved in local government (presumably because his ideas are unpopular and he can't deal with any criticism):

A blessing for the people of Carmel, Indiana, but isn't refusing to participate in city governance against everything urbanism stands for? I understand /r/fuckcars users being basement dwellers, but he's one of their "leaders".

He is more than just a leader, he is the voice of the revolution inspiring others to get involved in politics. Besides, he can't let city council meetings cut into his very busy schedule of gooning and playing switch on public transportation.

Every bugman is unhappy inside only dimly aware enough to realize something is wrong but can not answer for it. Of course, doubling down on making it worse gives him no sympathy but I've always thought that was interesting.

If this post and the ones following it are any indications, cohesive, non-insulting arguments are not their strong suit.

"Formulate a pro-bike lane argument that doesn't rely on telling people to read a book/a study or watch a YouTube video without insults, threats, or removal from the premises," can't be done. It would be like asking someone to stack a bunch of LEGO bricks to the moon.

The interesting thing to me about all this is it goes to show what an ideological echo chamber will do to people. Some fuckcars users have admitted before there's certain scenarios where using a car/truck just makes more sense like when moving houses. However there was a point where they became so off the rails that they can't even admit that using an SUV makes sense even if it's a life or death situation where they're going to die. They still have to keep their ideological reservations down to the bitter end.

They can't swallow their pride and just admit, "ok that's kind of a good idea, maybe I should put aside my autistic fixation for just a second during this emergency".

This is what happens when you have simpletons who think they are smarter then everyone else and who are also incapable of understanding that life can sometimes be a scale of decision making, not just two radically opposed viewpoints, come up with ideas for things. They end up wanting to die on a hill that is there dumb obsession.

A lot of it also stems from the fact that these retards are incapable of understanding that differences exist and that oftentimes they exist for specific reasons. One of the reasons why so many different architecture styles emerged throughout the world is because cultures were building them around their needs. Including things like the environment and weather since modern day inventions like HVAC didn't exist. These places built their buildings around what they specifically needed. Something that was built in a warmer environment in the Mediterranean such as in Rome wasn't necessarily going to suite the needs of people living in Northern European areas. Some needed protection from the cold on a more regular basis, others needed to worry about keeping cool.

These people fail to understand that even with modern advancements in technology that cities are always going to have different needs and thus you can't just have a blanket model for everyone to follow. What might work in Northeastern cities like New York or Boston might not necessarily work in western cities like Phoenix or Denver. Even coastal cities are different from another, San Diego has a different environment than what cities in Florida have.

The right-of-ways here in Central Pennsyltucky max out for safe rail travel at 45 - 55 mph.
I assume part of the issue is that there's so much track that it's impractical to make sure it's properly rated for main line speeds, the sheer length of the network making upgrading a non-starter due to the lack of ridership. For comparison's sake, I often see Class 66s heading freight trains absolutely bombing it through the village station at 60-70mph before I take the train home from work since our track is rated for it, which I suppose is mostly a result of the UK's density rather than anything else.
Ah but hurricanes bring wind so just use your windmills, child
They've clearly never seen a windmill in high winds, the blades look like they're going to fly off and turn into a municipal scale shuriken. These people are scared of motorbike engines, imagine them seeing something larger than their entire apartment spinning fast enough to risk flying they're gonna be absolutely bricking themselves.

I dislike these people so much it's not even funny sometimes.

I really do believe they think the government should be in charge of handling the situation as opposed to people taking action on their own. That does seem to be a core facet of their belief in collectivism and relying on a central power to handle things instead of individuals exercising their independence to do things. "I'm sure Kamala will swoop in and save us any moment now" they think to themselves.

Apparently West German wargaming determined that train evacuations were unlikely to be successful in the event of an attack from the Soviet Union:
That reminds me of how people were storming the runway and climbing in the wheel wells of planes when the US was pulling out of Afghanistan. Once again, a reminder that good public transit requires a good high trust society. And yes planes are public transit (long distance) despite car hating retards hating them for no good reason.
The MTA closed the New York subway before Hurricane Sandy made landfall. So their point is?
They don't have one, they just believe their fantasy of trains being superior in this scenario is somehow going to pan out despite reality contradicting them every step of the way.

You don't need property:
1728524499023.png
"You can shelter their pets en masse somewhere"

The thing about dog boarding and similar businesses is that they keep them in rooms where they can roam around a bit and be adequately prepped with ways to walk/clean poop/feed them and so forth. Pets aren't even allowed to be on long/overnight Amtrak trains (limit is seven hours).

This retard, through knowing cruelty or sheer thoughtlessness, thinks you can just stick a bunch of kennels in a warehouse for a few days.

>just use trains bro
>why do you need to take so much with you? one backpack is enough, you'll return home in a few days, it's not like some are unfortunate enough to lose everything what little they have
>pets take up space that could be used by other people
Umschlagplatz_loading.jpg

These people think that whatever they do in Cities: Skyline also works in real life or something. Wait till they hear weather can affect train tracks and the train itself, especially during a CAT 4 - CAT 5 hurricane. Oh, but then it's the government's fault for not just building a better railroad system, I guess

There's 30,000 miles of track in Canada and it doesn't even cover the whole country. It's basically a spine that goes east-west with a few branches that go into various spots in the north, and most of it is single track. There's 9800 miles in the UK and it runs to ever corner of the country, often double-tracked. You built railways to service towns, we had to build towns to service the railway as it went along. It's an incredibly useful thing to have but no private company or government service can afford to build a railway here to UK standards along the whole length of it.

This is also why you have 3300 miles of electrified track, and we have... eighty.

But it's not the case - you have to do major track upgrades also. Some portions of track in southern california is finally rated for 70+ MPH but to go to the next speed limit, they have to install positive train control (basically, signals that if a train blows the red it activates all the stopcocks and the train screeches to a halt).
I though the issue is that you need ATC before the feds will let them travel at 80mph as a kneejerk law after the Naperville crash? and the only one who did was Union Pacific, PTC is piss easy 1800's tech, you only need a valve and lever on the engine and a sprung loaded arm on the signal.

Our problem here is the regional operator uses ATC and so runs their DMU's at 100mph(not even exceeding peak steam train speeds rip) where the track is upgraded, but once they reach the metro limit they have to mix with the EMU's that mostly have PTC trainstops(Tho they have upgraded a line to moving blocks to match a new train tunnel) and are limited to 50mph in the city and max out at about 65mph on some longer stretches lol.

Tbh most things I've seen is more the American Train company management being retarded asset strippers than anything else, I was still amazed when I learned of Naperville they were running 80+mph like 2 minutes apart, it's kinda sad America was clearly a leader in rail tech and high speed services and just threw it away rip
Florida has rail but it's used for useless things like "moving rocks"
Have these retards not seen the footage of tanks and military equipment on flatbeds being hauled around by train? tbh it would make sense in a planned evac if the emergency planners could get their act together, the issue is that window was closed by the time people started leaving imo.

I'm amazed I haven't seen the retards propose banning single family homes being re-built where they have been flattened, but I guess they are more along the lines of 'fuck those people they can move to the rustbelt to be ignored there' I've seen a bunch of posts pushing that they should make them move 'from the sunbelt to the rustbelt' because everyone wants a cheap house in Detroit xD

Umm sweaty there's a lot to unpack here
1. >she/her
2. Defaulting every single statement to North America. It's a global thing- if you can afford better living conditions you will gladly pay for that whether you live in Nigeria, in the middle of Russia or in a small village in the US.
3. Completely disregarding the fact that rise in quality of life correlates with having more space. I don't think peasants during the industrial revolution that shared a single room between 3 families of 6 loved it very much.
4. Conflating not living in a closet/having some space to luxurious living. I will not get into that one because it's just a stupid argument

At least out west PTC is apparently a bridge too far and impossible to implement. ATC is a theoretical technology from the gods themselves.

At the base of all this is people not understanding logistics complications that begin to appear once your group is above family size or so. Even the Son of God had to deal with it (Matthew 14:13–21; Mark 6:31–44; Luke 9:12–17; John 6:1–14). Logistics gets hard when you’re dealing with city sized groups of people - it’s a testament to our technological might that most people don’t ever have to think about it. But everyone should try to run a church dinner or similar sometimes and then imagine scaling it up 1,000x or more.

Trains in emergencies should be bringing IN vehicles and supplies from military convoys to help with rescue and evacuation, not trying to transport people out.

And there’s a much bigger and simpler way to evacuate people from a seashore city - big fucking boats.

If you want to shit yourself look into why Amtrak had to take over Metrolink operations. Iirc it was something like … multiple signals being blown repeatedly. Whoever they had operating the metrostink apparently “stop on red” was too fucking complicated for them. You don’t even have to steer the damn things!
