Intense rainfall and floods that destroyed a lot cities in multiple countries? Finally forcing companies to conform to GDPR? Electricity and gas being expensive as hell?
You missed this tweet where he says that he doesn't have the courage to get involved in local government (presumably because his ideas are unpopular and he can't deal with any criticism):Threads urbanist is unhappy:

I thought bikes were supposed to make life more enriching and fulfilling? He doesn't even blame cars specifically here which is interesting. And if his problem was really "politics" then he wouldn't be voting for the same government but he is.
Someone chimes in to disparage the holy land:

They really love their made-up words, don't they?
He is more than just a leader, he is the voice of the revolution inspiring others to get involved in politics. Besides, he can't let city council meetings cut into his very busy schedule of gooning and playing switch on public transportation. You missed this tweet where he says that he doesn't have the courage to get involved in local government (presumably because his ideas are unpopular and he can't deal with any criticism):

A blessing for the people of Carmel, Indiana, but isn't refusing to participate in city governance against everything urbanism stands for? I understand /r/fuckcars users being basement dwellers, but he's one of their "leaders".
Every bugman is unhappy inside only dimly aware enough to realize something is wrong but can not answer for it. Of course, doubling down on making it worse gives him no sympathy but I've always thought that was interesting.I thought bikes were supposed to make life more enriching and fulfilling? If this post and the ones following it are any indications, cohesive, non-insulting arguments are not their strong suit.A blessing for the people of Carmel, Indiana, but isn't refusing to participate in city governance against everything urbanism stands for? This is what happens when you have simpletons who think they are smarter then everyone else and who are also incapable of understanding that life can sometimes be a scale of decision making, not just two radically opposed viewpoints, come up with ideas for things. They end up wanting to die on a hill that is there dumb obsession. The interesting thing to me about all this is it goes to show what an ideological echo chamber will do to people. Some fuckcars users have admitted before there's certain scenarios where using a car/truck just makes more sense like when moving houses. However there was a point where they became so off the rails that they can't even admit that using an SUV makes sense even if it's a life or death situation where they're going to die. They still have to keep their ideological reservations down to the bitter end.
They can't swallow their pride and just admit, "ok that's kind of a good idea, maybe I should put aside my autistic fixation for just a second during this emergency".

I assume part of the issue is that there's so much track that it's impractical to make sure it's properly rated for main line speeds, the sheer length of the network making upgrading a non-starter due to the lack of ridership. For comparison's sake, I often see Class 66s heading freight trains absolutely bombing it through the village station at 60-70mph before I take the train home from work since our track is rated for it, which I suppose is mostly a result of the UK's density rather than anything else. The right-of-ways here in Central Pennsyltucky max out for safe rail travel at 45 - 55 mph.
They've clearly never seen a windmill in high winds, the blades look like they're going to fly off and turn into a municipal scale shuriken. These people are scared of motorbike engines, imagine them seeing something larger than their entire apartment spinning fast enough to risk flying they're gonna be absolutely bricking themselves.Ah but hurricanes bring wind so just use your windmills, child
Not an issue if you don't care about oil profits:That's batshit. That is ten times as many superliner cars as there are in service, all held in reserve for one city.
The MTA closed the New York subway before Hurricane Sandy made landfall. So their point is?It would work if we just nationalized the railways:
That reminds me of how people were storming the runway and climbing in the wheel wells of planes when the US was pulling out of Afghanistan. Once again, a reminder that good public transit requires a good high trust society. And yes planes are public transit (long distance) despite car hating retards hating them for no good reason.Apparently West German wargaming determined that train evacuations were unlikely to be successful in the event of an attack from the Soviet Union:
They don't have one, they just believe their fantasy of trains being superior in this scenario is somehow going to pan out despite reality contradicting them every step of the way.The MTA closed the New York subway before Hurricane Sandy made landfall. So their point is?

There's 30,000 miles of track in Canada and it doesn't even cover the whole country. It's basically a spine that goes east-west with a few branches that go into various spots in the north, and most of it is single track. There's 9800 miles in the UK and it runs to ever corner of the country, often double-tracked. You built railways to service towns, we had to build towns to service the railway as it went along. It's an incredibly useful thing to have but no private company or government service can afford to build a railway here to UK standards along the whole length of it.I assume part of the issue is that there's so much track that it's impractical to make sure it's properly rated for main line speeds, the sheer length of the network making upgrading a non-starter due to the lack of ridership. I though the issue is that you need ATC before the feds will let them travel at 80mph as a kneejerk law after the Naperville crash? and the only one who did was Union Pacific, PTC is piss easy 1800's tech, you only need a valve and lever on the engine and a sprung loaded arm on the signal. But it's not the case - you have to do major track upgrades also. Some portions of track in southern california is finally rated for 70+ MPH but to go to the next speed limit, they have to install positive train control (basically, signals that if a train blows the red it activates all the stopcocks and the train screeches to a halt).
Have these retards not seen the footage of tanks and military equipment on flatbeds being hauled around by train? tbh it would make sense in a planned evac if the emergency planners could get their act together, the issue is that window was closed by the time people started leaving imo.Florida has rail but it's used for useless things like "moving rocks"
If I could summarize urbanism and why I despise it in one screenshot, this would be it
Umm sweaty there's a lot to unpack hereStill be better than pod living like some want....
If your response to 'people shouldn't live in closets' is 'well aksullally bugman countries live in them so you are just used to luxury' maybe you should consider that you are the bad guy wanting people to go back to overcrowded slum living like all those pajeets fleeing india to the west are trying to get away from...
At least out west PTC is apparently a bridge too far and impossible to implement. ATC is a theoretical technology from the gods themselves.I though the issue is that you need ATC before the feds will let them travel at 80mph as a kneejerk law after the Naperville crash? and the only one who did was Union Pacific, PTC is piss easy 1800's tech, you only need a valve and lever on the engine and a sprung loaded arm on the signal.
