Not Just Bikes / r/fuckcars / Urbanists / New Urbanism / Car-Free / Anti-Car - People and grifters who hate personal transport, freedom, cars, roads, suburbs, and are obsessed with city planning and urban design

Just a random thought that hit me- but something tells me that not insignificant part of the "just take the train dude" crowd never took a train themselves. It's clear when you look at how they think the train system operates- their "knowledge" and amazing pieces of advice are based on wishful thinking and not actual practice.
It's also obvious that they never had to evacuate in a hurry because Mother Nature had a bad day.

If you want to shit yourself look into why Amtrak had to take over Metrolink operations. Iirc it was something like … multiple signals being blown repeatedly. Whoever they had operating the metrostink apparently “stop on red” was too fucking complicated for them. You don’t even have to steer the damn things!
They hired cyclists to drive the trains?

There are two groups
For every hobby/interest there are two groups that form around it- those who actually do that hobby and those who are interested in meta-hobby, so to speak; the first group usually stays quiet because there're more interesting in actually performing that hobby and the second group prefers to discuss every aspect of such hobby without actually doing it. My favorite example of this behavior is the gamedev subreddit- never ending discussions about game engines and whatnot but barely any work done.

British cyclist bikes on the wrong lane for the turn he wants to make, a car almost hits them because they weren't expecting someone to use the wrong lane, cyclist blames the driver:

British drivers are a lot better behaved than American drivers. In the US, both lanes would have been full of cars until the last moment where they would merge into the other lane.

Whenever someone chastises him for cycling on the wrong side of the road (which he does several times in the video), he makes a snide comment about the UK driving on the left:

The UK does drive on the left, so why are you cycling on THE RIGHT THEN?

Blaming the truck driver:

Someone asks if any other cyclists do this. OP admits that they don't:

Someone tells him he's a dumbass and what he did is illegal in the Holy Land:

Though don't think that the Dutch cyclist is actually any better, he's just quoting the law which he ignores when riding:

A fellow British cyclist tells him what he did is illegal, he doesn't care:

OP's mom sounds like she made a terrible mistake and was too nice to her son, so he never grew up.

This is called a zipper merchant is actually the correct way to maximize use of the roadway. The US even has propaganda to try to convince people to do it in the polite parts of the country.

Edit zipper merchant lolololol the traffic jew

Turns out that quote from the Colombian communist about the rich using public transport isn't true? Who would have thought?

also lol that his name is moron, which is fitting because he thinks that congestion charging and high parking prices will stop the rich from driving:

They're too dumb to realize that they're useful idiots for the rich who want to live in a dense area but with the convenience, comfort, and privacy of the suburbs. The middle class being able to drive is a major impediment to that dream. The rich will pay the congestion charges and enjoy a faster and more luxurious commute than the urbanists while the only thing they will notice is that they can no longer afford Ubers or taxis.

Since that tweet went viral, there are some comments from normal people pointing this out:

What the fuck is up with those squiggly lines on the road?

Umm sweaty there's a lot to unpack here
1. >she/her
2. Defaulting every single statement to North America. It's a global thing- if you can afford better living conditions you will gladly pay for that whether you live in Nigeria, in the middle of Russia or in a small village in the US.
3. Completely disregarding the fact that rise in quality of life correlates with having more space. I don't think peasants during the industrial revolution that shared a single room between 3 families of 6 loved it very much.
4. Conflating not living in a closet/having some space to luxurious living. I will not get into that one because it's just a stupid argument

It's dumb because the whole cope of living in tiny apartments in big cities is that you have money and can do fun things, walk to bars, buy groceries on a bicycle, and enjoy delivery for everything else.

You'd think that someone would point out that the congestion pricing was still going to be a regressive tax and hurt the common man more than the ultra-rich, but I guess in that situation it doesn't matter because motorists are worth screwing over above all logic and sense.

In Britain it means to not go past stopped cars, usually painted near places like pedestrian crossings.

Congestion pricing is such a retarded idea in New York City when the MTA already has more than enough money, they're just shit at managing it. If you give them more money, the transit will not get better nor will the congestion on the roads be lessened. They should focus instead on cutting their wasteful administrative expenses.

If I’m ever in the position where I’m telling a guest at my house to take a bicycle to do their errands, let alone my own mother who is doing favours for me I think I’d kill myself out of shame. I know Reddit is famous for its hive minds but this is next level shit, anywhere else and this dude would be mocked relentlessly. But because it’s Reddit he’ll probably double down and tell his geriatric grandmother to take his bicycle to her bridge game next time she visits.

Youtube vomited this into my recommendations:

Haven't watched it, but I can tell you it doesn't. Let's break it down:

Pros:
+ It looks kinda nice

Cons:
- It's a nightmare to maintain, and if you fail to maintain it, it ends up looking like shit
- Normally, emergency vehicles make use of tram tracks to bypass traffic. When you replace the concrete or asphalt with a grass bed, they end up stuck

This is emblematic of the core issue; if they can't get their way punitively, they'll try to get it through burying what they want gone in layers of time, money, and restrictions until it's unusable by the average person. That way they can sit back and say "but it's not banned tho" when it functionally is. It's an insidious strategy and should be called out more
