the real big hurdle to women voting republican is the neocon stance on abortion. as long as states like South Dakota are around that have completely banned elective abortions and have no exceptions for even rape or incest, that is going to turn women away big time

that is, of course, why Planned Parenthood and the ACLU have decided not to support a South Dakota ballot measure that will restore elective abortions for the first trimester (A), despite this being a reasonable compromise that most americans are okay with. left wing politicians and activist groups know that now Roe v Wade is gone, the abortion debate can slowly be settled state by state. and once the abortion issue is gone the democrats are screwed

I think they should make it a law where if you get an abortion after the first trimester for reasons other than rape/incest/danger then you should be given the abortion then sterilized. Because the only way you didn't know you're pregnant after 3 months is if you're fucking FAT. Fats should not have kids.

He is talking and he is not saying anything of impor, his voice is cracking up A LOT, you can tell whoever used to write his speeches is no longer around. He is just repeating the same points with more pauses in between I guess.

Honestly shocking to me considering I still remember the rallies during his first and second runs to President.

It’s kind of like Bernie Sanders. He has a cadence while talking. Sanders does it to bring attention to his points.

Trump also does this. When Trump is speaking to a crowd vs an interview vs a podcast are all very different. Trump is not a great speaker, but he can command a camera well.

I think Obama’s pauses are the hide anxiety rather than to accent a point. They can in the hands of a good speech writer, but he gets to a point and stops to basically let it sink in. It’s why he used canned phrases like “let me be clear” so much or “if if if if if”, he has checkpoints where he can stop and refocus. Trump by comparison just rambles when he can because he wants to talk.

Trump is a narcissist. I won't PL too much, but I have family members who had to deal with him and Michael Cohen in the past (long before Trump's political career). Trump is a fucking prick and Cohen, especially, is a slimeball who deserves his fate. I don't mean this as a gotcha question - just curious - I agree though I generally see it like Maggie Thatcher - I don't want someone I would share a pint with in charge. I want someone who understands they are running the country and sometimes that means making decisions that might not win you some votes or having to do some tough shit to get the country sorted.

I was an Obama fan back in 2007 (I was young) and argued with a friend who pointed out he didn't have much substance outside his "Hope and Change" stuff - I argued regardless people were ready for a change and I didn't really find McCain all that appealing. I remember reading Crooks and Liars blog a lot back in the day and the blog would always be whining that Obama being slow to get things done was because he was "getting settled in" or that it was the Republicans fault even though he had a decent majority.

I also remember him adding a charge to the ESTA vote process - which I think was one of his better decisions in hindsight - but kinda stings when you live in a US friendly nation and the guy we wanted to win is like "so you want to come to America for a holiday? Better cough up $15 for a 2 year online visa pre-approval"

I don’t think it’s unrealistic that Obama basically had stressed himself out due to worrying about Trump destroying his legacy or Trump being his legacy.
