Hurricane Milton

because having been through Sandy in 2012, I know that in many ways the cleanup is the worst part. Where I live is *still* not 100% back to normal.
I don’t think new york will ever bounce back from sandy where I live there’s still ruined houses partially submerged in the water from over 13 years now it’s almost the annivarsary, I hate hurricanes I wouldn’t wish this stuff on my worst enemy. Fema agents maybe though, maybe they’d help out after it happens to them.

I think you're looking at it like a rational human.

What you need to do is look at it like an absolute faggot and then it makes sense:

You buy land, build a cheap building on it. The building is storage so you will make passive income because it exists. You then over insure the building and when natural disasters knock it over, you actually profit off of the disaster for more than the building was worth, replace the building and continue.

For most rich people's houses on the water and most of the storage facilities, this is actually a way to make a small windfall, instead of lose a lot of shit. Plus you get to parade around like a victim on National TV for support. Meanwhile it’s the workers who are now out of a job who actually suffer.
A lot of those “rich people houses” are self insured. Meaning the owner keeps $1.5M sitting in assets earning interest/ dividends waiting to be liquidated to replace their residence. The cost of property insurance is prohibitive due to the risk. Most insurers flat out refuse to insure in these areas, and specialty insurers cost a ton and have a million Jewish “gotchas”.

I'm in my boarded up house, at this point feels like more of a trap house, sweating my balls off reading by candlelight because Duke energy could care less about giving us an ETA on a return to normalcy. Even if nothing happens this still sucks. Gotta conserve what phone battery I have. Good luck and goodnight. See you guys in a couple days.

So is Florida still going to exist after all this?
Of course.
This event caused massive damage and flooding, casualty numbers are uncertain but I’m sure will climb, but Florida is home to a lot of people and I’m betting most will rebuild and endure.

I know it seems nuts to non Americans, but Floridians deal with hurricane season the same way the Midwest and northern US deals with snow and ice every year.
They know it’ll happen, but most of the time it’s fine.
This time it was not fine, but all the wild Florida Men and Florida Women are strong and will endure.
Maybe on jet skis, but they’ll endure.

Looking att he storm path chart it died down severely once it started approaching Disney. Maybe they got their own weather dominator? :story:
Finally a conspiracy theory I can believe in.

I'm sending you psychic feels because you won't read this until later, godsneed.

The floodwaters are crazy. Not all powerboxes and poles are in easily accessible places, and there's so many objects that peaced out with an R2-D2 scream it's likely most areas will not have power for a whole week. It's likely the power companies aren't giving out ETAs because they can't fucking get across all that goddamn water yet. :(

The good news is that it looks like clear skies for the next week. Let's hope any shower that comes is a light sprinkle and prepare for the worst as always.

Horrible with what happened alongside helene, now these poor people have to deal with the headache of Fema, cleaning up and having to rebuild again. Hope the charites and donations help even just a little bit.
Yeah the double whammy for some is extremely tragic, even for people that are insured or have outside support.

My wife's friend's grandparents, in their late 80s/early 90s I believe, own(ed) a home on Siesta Key that was very heavily damaged by Helene. They had just really gotten started putting it all back together before they had to evacuate (again) because of Milton, who came and finished the job. Everything is a total loss. Simply put, there's nothing left. I can't imagine this is a particularly unique story, so I implore you, Floridafrens, be there for your neighbor. Soon, everyone that evacuated will trickle home. When they do, since there's nothing to satiate the media's bloodlust, no thousands of dead, no apocalyptic landscapes, people will quickly forget the silent suffering these people are going though as they attempt to sort through what used to be their home, and take those broken pieces and try to form a crude approximation of their previous life, please take care of one another. Anyway, I'm out of here for the night. Take care and God bless.

Damn, the videos of the hurricane gave me a sense of dread that I haven't felt for so long. Hurricanes don't happen in my country so I would be 100% lost on what to do if I were in Florida.
Wishing all the kiwis that were affected a speedy recovery from this disaster. You are in my thoughts.

A few more extra-tism-fueled folks on the outside with actual keen interest in these things should probably try hooking into local radio stations during and after shit like this happens in the future for points of interest and stories. For hours now I've been tuned into a popular station where dozens upon dozens of people have been calling in giving their stories and anecdotes about the hurricane, asking for help, and etc.; station has directly helped people make connections to help eachother and highlights some of the best of humanity. Within minutes of someone calling in asking for help, someone steps up to help. Obviously this is not special in any way, this is regular healthy community disaster respone, but I feel like some of that truly human element is accidentally left by the wayside when the thread starts sperging "JEWS JEWS JEWS WEATHER CONTROL THIS IS WHAT THIS MEANS FOR THE ELECTION AND DONALD TRUMP" or during the side tangents. Maybe I'm biased but posts about how Florida Radio Men Save Old Woman With Geriatric Dogs and Pregnant Granddaughter by Delivering Them Bread and Milk (real story I heard earlier btw) I feel is infinitely better than Thunderdome tripe.

Still got no power. Charged phone in car earlier. Going to sleep. Stars outside look nice, maybe it's placebo but I feel like I'm seeing more since there's less light pollution. Love ya Kiwis. Especially the folks who also had to ride out this storm.

Florida man has gotten out of worse

It’s not a nothing burger, but it’s very much something that Floridians are used to from the sounds of it. The Tornado’s being formed was freakish, but Ivan did that worse.

Glad everyone here survived and has a roof over their head. For those without power, that sucks, hope you get power back soon to shit post with.

Also, update on Null’s basement. It’s flooded, but his diving suit, water proof battery, and Star link worked. Bad news is that he rage quit league and is now playing RuneScape. There will be no Friday MATI due to this.

If I lived in Florida I'd most likely leave Florida.

Living in a disaster-prone state is not what I want.
All states are prone to some sort of disaster. Cali has earthquakes and forest fires, the gulf has hurricanes, the plains have tornados, the great lakes region has polar vortexes, the southwest has heatwaves (which are dangerous, don't understimate them), and so on with all regions. There's no perfect place on earth where you simply won't have to deal with such events sooner or later
