From how I see it at the very least, Vegas more or less has major boxing/wrestling/combat sporting events, casinos, sportsball stuff and now the whole fiasco regarding having F1 come every year. All the big fish have bought everything out, I think all the casinos are divided between MGM and someone else, gold star entertainment? I forget the name of it, however the con itself is, as mentioned before, small fish compared to what most of these places want.
Some guess work too, the con itself is priding itself on being in LV, being all "ooo look we are in the den of vice!" since BLFC is just north in reno and has a far higher attendance rate, plus pulls in a lot more money for the hotel. You have I think golden state furcon or something, cali does have very large cons, alongside ComicCon and AnimeExpo in LA. it is located smack bang in an area of entities far larger and it needs to strongarm it's way in. Sadly, this con will probably shoot itself in the foot somehow and result in major issues or closure.
Las Vegas cons are fundamentally different than anime expo or comicon. The big LV cons are trade shows attended by seasoned professional with deep pockets being paid to be there. Even. Lot of their leisure spending is covered by their company. Anime expo is attended largely by kids without careers or even their own money.
LV also has a massive amount of convention space. LACC is small and right next to one of the most ghetto and dangerous parts of LA.
